This document summarizes Marc-André Lépine's presentation on using PowerApps custom connectors and JSON. The presentation covers: 1) enhancing an existing StaffHub scheduling application with PowerApps; 2) using a calendar gallery control to display schedules; and 3) building a custom connector to interface with the StaffHub API and generate JSON messages from PowerApps to send to other applications like Flow. Practical applications discussed include exporting data to CSV, looping emails, and using Flow/SQL as "workhorses" to handle multiple calls or writes.
Beyond DevOps - How Netflix Bridges the GapJosh Evans
Operating a massively scalable, constantly changing, distributed global service is a daunting task. We innovate at breakneck speed to attract new customers and stay ahead of the competition. Simultaneously improving service quality and enabling rapid, continuous change seems impossible on the surface.
At Netflix, Operations Engineering is a centralized organization whose charter is to accomplish just that by applying high-leverage software engineering practices like continuous delivery. real-time analytics, and automation to solve operational problems. It's well established that many traditional IT Operations teams struggle to bridge the gap with software engineering. Operations Engineering is no exception. And while DevOps as a construct seeks to address this gap, it doesn't go far enough. It does not explain how to bridge the gap or even why it's important to do so.
In this talk we’ll use Netflix Operations Engineering as a case study to address these questions. We'll explore common challenges faced by operational teams and strategies to overcome them.
These are my slides from my talk at LA.rb, covering research at UCSB on the AppScale project. This is a condensed version of the talk I gave at SBonRails - see that talk for about twice as much material on these topics.

Things are moving fast. Sometimes you might even feel that you own comfort zone is getting of control. But in a Mobile-First, Cloud-First world, things are changing to a crazy pace and to stay on the top of your game, you need keep up with the latest and greatest technologies that are available out there. By staying up to date, you will give to yourself new options that will let you be more productive, write better code and push you in a more open and more collaborative world. With the official shipment of Angular 2 and the current preview release of the SharePoint Framework, it is now the time to start moving towards those new technologies in your SharePoint Solutions. In this session, we will cover the modern tool belt of the SharePoint developer by covering the SharePoint Framework as the new surface to express yourself, Angular as a Framework to enable you to build complete applications within your SharePoint modern experiences and Azure Function as the perfect server-side companion for all your Office 365 & Azure development. This very demo-intensive session will make sure that at the end you get those 3 key takeaways : - Understand the role of the SharePoint Framework, Angular and Azure Functions in this Cloud-First, Mobile-First world - Have a complete sample where the modern tool belt is relevant and useful in a real-world scenario - Change the way you will think for your next SharePoint project

Cloud Connected Devices on a Global Scale (CPN303) | AWS re:Invent 2013Amazon Web Services
Increasingly, mobile and other connected devices are leveraging the scalability and capabilities of the cloud to deliver services to end users. However, connecting these devices to the cloud presents unique challenges. Resource constraints make it impossible to use many common frameworks and transport restrictions make it difficult to use dynamic cloud resources. In this session, learn how you can develop and deploy highly-scalable global solutions using Amazon Web Services (Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, Elastic IP addresses, Amazon Route 53, Auto Scaling) and tools like Puppet. Hear how Panasonic and Banjo architect their cloud infrastructure from both a start-up and enterprise perspective.
Everyday we create services for our systems. A lot of people create RESTful APIs but much more can be accomplished by following best practices and treating your APIs as a product to be consumed by fellow team members, systems and 3rd party consumers.
We will discuss what makes a great RESTful API and share some of our experiences building some that power real systems.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
