POINT OF VIEW
• The perspective of the narrator in the story
• Refers to who is telling the story or who the
narrator is
• POV is the way the author allows the reader to
“see” and “hear” what is going on
1st Person Point of
View
1st Person Point of View
• The person telling the story is the main character
and is participating “in” the story
• It uses personal pronouns such as I, my, me, we,
mine
• This can be very intimate and often allows access
to the main character’s innermost thoughts.
2nd Person Point of View
• Used when the story is like a roleplay
• It uses words such as ‘you’ and ‘yours’
• Basically, it just adds you in the story as if you
were a character
3rd Person Point of View
• When the story has more than one character’s view
point
• They uses the word he, she, them, they, him, her and
it
• Basically, more than one character is introduced and
more thoughts are seen in the story

1. Third Person Limited – the reader is made aware of the
thoughts and feelings of “only one” character
2. Third Person Omniscient – omniscient means “all
knowing”
The reader knows the feelings/thoughts of all the
