1. Posture Care

Posture Care is a chair cover that monitors employees’ posture to improve worker
productivity by reducing the frequency of posture related injuries. With Posture Care,
information is sent in real time so individuals can correct posture issues before they
occur. This system benefits employees by improving health and preventing injuries. This
posture monitoring system respects employee privacy in ways a camera-based system
cannot. A summary of how Posture Care works is shown below.
How Posture Care Works Sensor Locations
Posture Care uses an Arduino to determine posture from sensor data. To demonstrate
that Posture Care works, posture data was sent using a bluetooth module to an Android
phone. An Android application was used to display user posture and the relative amount
of time spent in each position. This method, along with the detectable positions are
shown on the next page.
2. Good Good Bad Bad Empty
A small breadboard and Arduino contained all the circuitry necessary for one bluetooth
module, two force sensors, one distance sensor (see picture below). The force sensors
were sewn into the chair cover (see Sensor Locations picture) and the distance sensor
mounted above the chair. The electronics were mounted to the back of the chair as seen
below.
The attached video shows Posture Care in action and demonstrates that our method
works. We intend to save companies money and improve the health of office employees.
