The Kentucky Labor Cabinet is reminding employers that required workplace posters on topics such as wage and hour laws and safety guidelines are available for free on its website. Private companies have been contacting employers and charging fees for these posters. However, employers can download all required posters from the Labor Cabinet website at no cost and do not need to purchase them from third parties. The Attorney General encourages any employers who receive notices requesting payment for the posters to contact his office for consumer protection.

C4C's latest report highlights a concerning issue: U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is not adequately protecting public servants responsible for delivering safe and efficient programs and services to the public.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Unmet Mission Challenges Impa...Tanya Ward Jordan
The C4C report addresses the gross deficiencies in the federal equal employment opportunity (EEO) program under the leadership of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC has failed to achieve President Jimmy Carter's and Congress' goals since assuming the EEO enforcement role from the Civil Service Commission in 1978. As with its predecessor, the EEOC fails to actively enforce civil rights violations in federal workplaces today.
The report highlights twenty-one (21) challenges civil servants and job applicants confront while navigating the EEO complaint program. The Coalition For Change, also proposes reforms to address the longstanding concerns of advocacy groups, legal scholars, lawmakers, and federal whistleblowers.
HR Webinar: Immigration Changes and the Impact to Employers: 2018-2019Ascentis
It's not a government secret: The current administration is interested to change many elements of immigration policy and has a demonstrated preference that every job in the US that can possibly be filled by an American citizen, is. Yet despite one of the most full-throated verbal battles on Capitol Hill in recent memory (complete with a record government shutdown of 35 days), the Reconciliation Bills that finally got signed had virtually no changes to employment law or employer immigrant-status policy. E-Verify mandates continue to be controlled at the state level, with no nationwide mandate. So far, the primary changes in work visa and immigration policy have been via Executive Action, and in this session, we'll review the substantial movement on that front.

Chris Roush, business journalism professor at University of North Carolina, presents “Uncovering Public Information on Private Companies” during the free Reynolds Center workshop, “Uncovering the Best Local Business Stories,” in Lexington, Ky.
The daylong workshop covered tips on how to find good stories in the business of government, how to cover economic-development agencies at the state and local levels, and how to find public information on private companies.
Presenters also discussed how to find stories in small business and publicly available databases, and how to localize national and international stories for your audience.
This free training was specifically geared toward community journalists and generalists on tight budgets and small staffs. Another workshop by the same name was later held in Fort Worth.

Kentucky Labor Cabinet to All Employers: We Provide Required
Posters for Free
Private companies are charging for posters that are available for free from the Kentucky
Labor Cabinet
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 19, 2014) – The Kentucky Labor Cabinet reminds all
employers in the Commonwealth that required labor law posters are available for free at
its website, www.labor.ky.gov. Private companies are sending notices that offer to sell
these posters to businesses.
“Business owners in Kentucky need to know that they can get these posters at no cost by
going to our website,” said Kentucky Labor Cabinet Secretary Larry Roberts. “They
don’t have to buy them from third party sources. These required posters are available on
our website so that anyone can download them for free.”
Employers failing to post required posters may be subject to citations and penalties, but
letters sent to Kentucky businesses have threatened civil and criminal penalties up to
$17,000 if they do not display certain posters being sold. Some employers may be misled
into believing that these notices are official government warnings. While certain posters
are required by law to be posted in the workplace, the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, as well as
other Kentucky agencies and the U.S. Department of Labor, provides these posters free of
charge.
2. “My office investigates and takes action to halt misleading and deceptive advertising
practices,” said Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. “I want to ensure that
employers don’t fall victim to false and misguided information. If business owners
receive a notice from a private company requesting payment for these posters, I
encourage them to contact my Office of Consumer Protection at 1-888-432-9257.”
The Labor Cabinet provides required posters for child labor laws, wage discrimination
because of sex, wage and hour laws, and safety and health on the job guidelines. The
Labor Cabinet also provides these posters in Spanish.
In addition to the Labor Cabinet posters, there are also two other mandatory posters for
employers within the Commonwealth. The Kentucky equal employment opportunity
poster is provided courtesy of the Commission of Human Rights, and the unemployment
insurance benefits poster is provided by the Office of Employment and Training. Links to
those posters are also available on the Labor Cabinet’s website, www.labor.ky.gov.
There may be Federal posters certain companies are required to post. Please check the
U.S. Dept. of Labor website here for those posters that may apply.

million wage-earning employees. The Cabinet, according to regulation, has the duties,
responsibilities, power, and authority relating to labor, wage and hour issues,
occupational safety and health of employees, child labor, apprenticeship, workers’
