Jose Guadeloupe Posada was a Mexican cartoonist and printmaker born in 1852 who was known for his caricatures of people and skeletons. As a teenager, Posada worked for a newspaper company in Aguascalientes, Mexico where he began his career as a cartoonist. His cartoonist style utilized vigorous lines, contrasts, and imagery of violence. Later in life, Posada was banned from his hometown for offending a local leader and moved to Mexico City where he created his most famous work, Calavera de las Muertas in 1910.
