The document discusses two Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, Thespis and Utopia, Limited. Regarding Thespis, it summarizes that the music is lost and the plot involving actors replacing gods who are on vacation is tedious. For Utopia, Limited, it notes the songs are unmemorable, the plot is weak, and it is more bigoted than other G&S operettas due to inaccurate costumes depicting the South Pacific and a minstrel-style song. The discussion aims to satisfy the author's completist tendencies around analyzing all G&S operettas.
The document describes the early failures and rejections faced by many famous and successful individuals. It explains that Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first TV job for being unfit, Walt Disney was told that a mouse would never work, and J.K. Rowling struggled as a single mother before writing Harry Potter. Many others like Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Elvis Presley, and the Wright Brothers experienced early setbacks and failures but went on to achieve great success through perseverance.

The document compares the Arabian folktale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves to the Disney movie Aladdin, noting several similarities and differences between the two stories. Both tales are set in Arabia and feature "bad guys" and "trickster" characters, though Ali Baba does not involve a genie or wishes like Aladdin. Additionally, Ali Baba is presented as older and without music, while Aladdin is a younger musical film adaptation of the folktale.
Aladdin and Ali Baba are both Arabian folktales that share some similarities, such as being set in ancient Arabia, featuring caves containing treasure, and including trickster characters. However, they differ in their central plots, with Aladdin focusing on a magic lamp and Ali Baba centered around hidden treasure. Additionally, Ali Baba contains violence and killing that is absent from the Disney adaptation of Aladdin due to its target audience. In conclusion, while the stories share some common folklore elements, they tell distinct tales through different storytelling formats.
Both Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves and Aladdin are Arabian folktales that take place in countries like Egypt and Israel and feature trickster characters, riches, and magic. They both involve a cave containing treasure, usually gold, and a villain who tries to take the treasure and suffers consequences. However, Ali Baba is a written text while Aladdin is a movie, Ali Baba has no music while Aladdin does, and only Aladdin features a magical lamp containing a genie who can grant wishes.
The producer discusses the challenges of filming Lions Heading Venice in both Albania and Italy over 5 weeks. Location shoots included the Albanian landscape and seaside, as well as 10 days filming in Italy. Tricky shoots involved adding fog to the seaside and using a hot air balloon. The atmosphere on set was professional to allow the actors' best performances. The director developed strong relationships between the cast through rehearsals. The low-budget film was made possible through discounted locations, actors working for less, and support from the National Film Center of Albania.

Introduction
For this assignment, I went to the museum with my professor. It was a wonderful experience especially since I have not been to a museum for a long time and she was already a member. The museum we chose to explore was The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Because she was a member, I only had to pay $10 for the entrance fee which was a nice discount. When we first walked in, I was overwhelmed because I was excited and anxious to see all the different works of art. The exhibits we saw were Modern Times, Art Splash and Face to Face.
Face to Face
As I start to think back, I did not take any pictures in the Face to Face exhibit. This exhibit had so many people, I couldn’t and would not dare take my phone out because I probably would have dropped and broken it. It’s interesting to have seen so many people since all that was in the room were the artist's self-portraits and brief descriptions. But that is what amazed me, seeing that people still appreciate others and what they’ve done is extremely motivating to me. In our World Cultures textbook, the majority of what was read was filled with cruelty and hate which still goes on today but seeing us as individuals overcome the hatred and honor those in our past is nothing less than a miracle I was able to witness in person. If I were thinking, I could have taken a photo of the exhibit to express the appreciation of today’s society looking back at yesterday’s heartaches and pain.
Art Splash
The second exhibit was called Art Splash. The museum stated that it was an “imaginative play for kids and their grown-ups” which was suitable due to the beautiful vibrant colors and even still-life paintings of light. The two pictures I chose were of Charles Sheeler and Joseph Stella. The Swan, which was created around 1924, was a painting that caught my attention as soon as I entered the room. The energy was warm, welcoming and fun as the colors made the Modern painting come alive. He gives people a sense of hope in the era of the Italian Renaissance which is what many of them needed. In Art Splash, I also admired the painting of Joseph Stella, The Cactus, because I enjoy seeing him show the reflection of the lights in this painting. What really catches my attention is how there are reflections, but it doesn’t show where the light is coming from. If you investigate the picture, the stand-up light isn’t plugged in! He’s really making you use your imagination to figure out where the light is coming from because it doesn’t show light coming from the lamp above the cactus either. These two artists are taking you to different places; Sheeler is taking you to a fairyland while Stella has you in a magician’s house. These two paintings are full of life, and I loved looking at them. (Philadelphia Art Museum, 2)
Modern Times
The exhibit Modern Times was my all-time favorite! I am far from being an artist but to see what people can pa.

Leonardo is a poor boy living in Rome in 1235 who enjoys exploring the new museum in town. He describes several works he sees there, including paintings by Leonardo Da Vinci and a book by Thomas More called Utopia. He also learns about Galileo, who discovered that the sun, not the Earth, is the center of the universe. Additionally, he shares about Hans Lippershey, who invented the telescope, allowing people to see faraway things and enabling Galileo's research.

Jeanne Chaileviar begins keeping a diary to document the changes happening in society during the Renaissance period. She works as an artist painting what the Pope commissions. She describes her family and living in a large manor house in London with over 20 rooms. She hopes to make a difference by trying new styles of art and taking risks in her work. In later entries, she discusses works she has seen by Leonardo Da Vinci and William Shakespeare that have changed perceptions of religion, God, and life. She also learns about discoveries by Galileo and inventions by Leonardo Da Vinci that are advancing science and transportation.

The document discusses an original experiment called the Beanbag Project which tested how many beans were needed inside beanbags by having participants feel different beanbags and guess the amount of beans. While the experiment did not solve any major real-world problems, it addressed a minor issue of determining the optimal amount of stuffing for beanbags. The project was not too difficult to conduct but did require obtaining beanbags with varying amounts of beans for testing.

This document summarizes interviews with three Second Life artists: Marx Catteneo, Quan Lavender, and Wizard Gynoid. Marx Catteneo is a photographer from the Netherlands who sells his real-life photographs in Second Life. Quan Lavender is a curator from Germany who organized an art exhibition in Second Life called "Art in Hats." Wizard Gynoid is a "Fractal Expressionist" artist from the Seattle area whose large, complex installations in Second Life are inspired by mathematics and science.
The Renaissance was a major period of change in history. It introduced new ideas in art, literature, and science that changed people's view of the world. Art became more realistic with the development of oil painting techniques. Literature grew more widespread as the printing press mass produced books, increasing literacy. Scientific discovery advanced beyond ancient Greek and Roman knowledge, changing people's understanding of the natural world. Overall, the Renaissance marked a rebirth of learning and culture that significantly impacted education, thought, and society.
1. 01DISTORTED BEAUTY
IMAGE MANIPULATION:This creation was to showcase
the uglier side of London Fashion week. I created a series
of mismatched images of models from the catwalks. I
wanted to take a new look at the world of fashion, looking
at the models from others angles.
2. 02TIME AND PLACE
PHOTOGRAPHY: For this brief I was to create a series
of 5 landscape images that would be placed on London
tube trains to promote a newTV show. There had to be
connecting features on the images, which is why I chose
to include the repeating birds in all 5 photos. I interpreted
the ‘time’ aspect with the black and white style; fading
across the picture
3. 03TIME AND PLACE
PHOTOGRAPHY: For the second part of the brief, I
had to create 5 portrait images that would be placed
on the escalators in tube stations. They had to link with
the previous series so I kept the repeating bird theme. I
interpreted the ‘place’ aspect by taking pictures of different
places within a town.
4. 04THE DESIGN PROCESS
POSTER:There are many different design processes, but
the jist is always the same. It’s the way designers work
through a brief. This poster shows my interpretation of
the process, just using different mark making.
5. 05ROSIE’S FIRST ADVENTURE
BOOK:This was a typographic brief based on a object
that had been on display at the Powell Cotton museum.
I chose the butterflies and decided to create a children’s
book.To the right is all the pages in the book and the front
cover. The inside pages of the book were folded so they
could be pulled out to show wings of a butterfly.
Once upon a time there was a butterfly
C A L L E D R O S I E .
ROSIE
was the most beautiful butterfly in
ALL THE LAND.
She loved to fly around all day
with her friends to feed on the
nectar from the
FLOWERS.
ROSIE
was a monarch butterfly like
ALL HER FRIENDS.
It was
GETTING INTO WINTER.
Rosie could tell because she
has to wear her winter coat
when she went out with her
friends.
R O S I E
knows from stories that her older
brothers and sisters had told her
that monarch butterflies
ALL TAKE A TRIP TOGETHER
somewhere far away when
the weather gets cold.
She was really
E X C I T E D .
So the next morning, Rosie
PACKED HER BAGS
and got ready to take the
loooong journey.
She went to the meet the other
butterflies with all her brothers
and sisters and they all
TOOK OFF TOGETHER.
“Are we going to have a rest soon?”
Rosie asked Lilly, her older sister.
“I’m getting tired.”
“We’ve only just started,” said Lilly.
“There is a long way to go.”
“We will stop soon.”
“We have been flying a while, lets
take a rest on that big tree down
there.”
Rosie was happy.
Her little wings were very tired and
NEEDED A REST.
Rosie’s Dad said they
were going stay here
FOR THE NIGHT.
So, R O S I E
curled up on her
spot on the tree and
So all the butterflies carried on following
Rosie’s Dad, Jim - the leader of the
trip, for a while longer until he said,
went to sleep.
When she woke up, she looked
around and couldn’t see any of her
friends or brothers or sisters.
Rosie was very
WORRIED.
“It was me,”
the voice replied.
Rosie looked down and saw a
LITTLE CATERPILLAR
looking up at her.
She didn’t know where they could be.
“Excuse me!”
“What was that?” said Rosie.
“Oh, thank you,” said Rosie.
“THANK YOU so much.”
“You are welcome, “ replied
the caterpillar.
“GOOD LUCK!” he said as
Rosie flew off into the sky.
“Did you see where my
friends went?” asked Rosie
“Yes, they went that
way,” said the caterpillar
pointing into the sky.
Rosie FLEW HIGH into the
sky, looking for her friends.
SHE COULD SEE THEM!
She flew as fast as
she could
to catch up to them.
“I hope I reach them soon,”
Rosie said to herself.
Rosie flew very fast,
and soon caught up with
all the other butterflies.
She was
VERY HAPPY
to be back with her family.
A little while later, Rosie and the
rest of the butterflies reached
THEIR NEW HOME.
Rosie couldn’t wait to start
exploring but she very
tired from the long journey.
Her next adventure
would have wait until
TOMORROW.
ROSIE is going on her
first advernture.
Is she going to be able
to stay out of trouble?

find out!
