AI is increasingly being implemented on-device instead of an implementation in the cloud. What is edge computing, Edge AI, why should we care and how to benefit from it? Expect an in-dept explanation, possible technical solutions and use cases to the current edge computing trend in the AI landscape.
Industries 1.0, 2.0 (and most of) 3.0, saw manufacturing and construction using natural materials readily extracted, refined, amalgamated, machined, and molded. In general, these exhibited fixed mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties. However, the latter stages of Industry 3.0 embraced synthetics exhibiting superior properties to afford new degrees of freedom in the design of structures and products.
Today Industry 4.0 sees further advances with metamaterials, dynamic coatings, controllable properties, and additive manufacturing. Embedded smarts have also made communication between components, products and structures possible under the guise of the IoT. Adaptable materials with a degree of self-repair are also opening the door to further freedoms and less material use. In combination, these represent a big step toward sustainable societies with highly efficient ReUse, RePurposing, and Recycling (3R).
At the leading edge, we are now realising active surfaces that can reflect, absorb, or amplify wireless signals, offer programmable colour, and integral energy storage. But amongst a growing list of possibilities, it is integral sensing & communication that may define this new era. In this presentation, we look at these advances in the context of smart design, cities & societies.

If you develop apps or games with Unity, take advantage of Fire TV’s growing popularity to reach a whole new audience. This session will explore some of the considerations applicable when developing for streaming media devices, including Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. We’ll demonstrate how to account for the form factor (overscan, landscape, device and controller detection), and show you Unity makes it easy to create Fire TV apps and games.
Frank Steinicke (Univ of Hamburg) Being Really Virtual - Virtual Reality in t...AugmentedWorldExpo
In order to gain a better understanding of how living in such a virtual environment (VE) would impact human beings, we conducted a self-experiment in which we exposed a single participant in an immersive VR setup for 24 hours (divided into repeated sessions of two hours VR exposure followed by ten minutes breaks), which is to our knowledge the longest documented use of an immersive VEs so far.
In my presentation I will talk about what we learned from the experiment. I will give an outlook of what VR will become in the next 15 years and what it means to be be really virtual.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.

The digital art community is quite large and diverse, in
order to learn what kind of environment professional
artists work in is very accessible. They share photos of
their workspace online, which gave me great insights.
Art Process Analysis
Every artist has a unique approach to their tasks, so
I went through dozens of process recordings (called
speedpaintings) to collect the most commom used tools
and actions and divided them into different priority
sections. With that information I could determine how
many functions my product had to cover.

I also had the opportunity to chat with a designer,
who also does a lot of digital art and uses a gaming

„It‘s meant for painting quickly without hesitation and having to look at
any keyboards ...been using this keymap for almost ten years“
„...also the 2 buttons on the Cintiq stylus is right click to pick and choose
brushes and space bar to move the canvas around“
7. The industry is aware of that problem, so a few interesting
peripherals targeted towards artists hit the market recently.
Wacom ExpressKey Remote
A wireless controller with programable buttons that can cover
over 20 functions. In addition, a touch-sensivite ring can be
bound to control such things as the brush size, canvas rotation
or canvas zoom. The device is quite compact and packs a lot of
buttons into a small footprint, but sacrifices ergonomics.
Pallet Gear
A modular system of buttons, sliders and knobs that offers a lot
of customization and works for many softwares. But it takes up
a lot of space on the desk for the controls it gives, the chosen
layout loses its efficiency when you switch the software and the
overall system is quite expensive.
Microsoft Surface Dial
The Surface Dial is a capacitive pug, that can be placed on
the Microsoft Surface Studio. an All-in-one computer with pen
input. It can be positioned freely and opens up a new way to
enhance the artists workflow with a combination of hardware
and software interface. The downside are the limited controls
you get, so you have to scroll if you want to use the Dial with a
lot of functions.
P R O D U C T R E S E A R C H
+
Graphic Tablets
The most essential input device when it comes to digital
art is the digital pen. Most of them are pressure and
tilt sensitive and offer a far more precise and faster
experience than any mouse ever could for that purpose.
But the pen alone is not enough to control all the common
used tools and funtions in a software. Therefore the
keyboard or programable keys are needed.
8. Gaming Kepads
So what do digital artists actually use to access their tools
and funtions within their software quickly? Most would just
use the keyboard with its shortcuts from the software. But
this setup lead to a lot of ergonomic problems.
But in the collection of workspace pictures I could see
that another piece of hardware was often used, so called
gaming keypads. These offer some key advantages:
+ avoid button combinations, due to key mapping
+ small footprint, can be placed next to graphic tablet
+ hand doesn‘t need to be moved to reach all buttons
+ ergonomic palm rest
Since these products are targeted towards gamers how
could a ergonomic keypad specialized for digital artists
look like?

28. The research and initial concept development work was
distributed throughout 20 people in the team. After that
smaller groups formed, to tackle different areas.
I was part of a team consisting of 9 students. We set a goal
for ourselves to create a whole new braun experience trough
many touchpoints. Within there another student and me were
responsible to develop a packaging solution for the new
designed products.

To improve the user experience and
looking back to Braun‘s original design
language a much cleaner and minimalistic
approach was necessary.

sponsored by Dräger, which makes breathing,
protection equipment and gas detection among
other products. The focus in this studio was more
conceptional, as the targeted time was set to
2035. Here again, the students worked closely
with the company and held presentations after
each major step in the design process.

37. In order to experience first hand how
strenuous it can be to work thousands of
meters under ground level, Dräger arranged
a tour through the Kali+Salz salt mine and
the RAG training site in Recklinghausen.
We had to carry the equipment every worker
has to wear down in the mine.
In the end we got a great overview of how
the daily routines are and what kind of
struggles may occur working underground.

38. During our research in the mine we found out,
that in order to clear all areas after detonating,
workers had get close to the gas. So they
either had to use gas detectors in their hands
or attached to cars to spot any dangerous
chemicals. This is not only dangerous, but also
takes up a lot of time in a shift.

39. The drones are fitted with a multi-spectral
LiDAR-camera that is able to generate
3D-images and deduce the atmospheric
composition depending on the wavelength of
the absorbed laser-light from the range finder.
Cameras like these are already used for finding
leaks in pipelines.
