7. ABOUT ME
A graduate of Florida State University, US Navy Veteran and current student at the Le Cordon
Bleu Culinary Institute, Ms. Gulley haphazardly stumbled upon her passion of cake baking and
design. She always knew she wanted a career that fostered her creative skills, but never in a
million years would she have imagined that baking and designing cakes would ignite such
passion and excitement inside her.
One day, a friend casually mentioned the need to order a cake for her 2-year old son's birthday.
Never having baked anything other than a boxed cake; she, without hesitation, stated "I will
make your son's cake girl." Knowing Latisha's devotion, attention to detail, and perseverance
when she commits herself to a task, the friend agreed.
Determined to always exceed expectations; it wasn't enough for her to simply make a cake, she
decided she would design a 3D Structural Standing Cake. The theme for the cake was Mickey
Mouse, and with only three months to learn the tricks of the trade, Latisha began her journey.
Referencing everything from blogs, to YouTube, to Craftsy Courses, she taught herself everything
she needed to know to pull the cake off. After months of research, studying, and trial and error;
she successfully built a standing Mickey Mouse cake that stood two feet tall. After receiving rave
reviews on not only the design of the cake, but the taste as well; she knew that this was her
destiny, she was born to create art through cakes. After photos circulated around, it wasn't long
before she was being sought out by customers.
