POPULAR JEWELLERY GEMSTONE
Birth stones have been used since ancient times. They believed that birthstone protects its
user. This belief still exists among people today. There are many myths and myths
surrounding the birthstone. Separate birth stones are also used for twelve months.
Garnet, australian opal earrings are available in different shades and colours from brown to
purple. But its dark red variety is valuable as a precious stone although the mineral is quite
common. Garnet crystals are 12-faced. The stones have been valuable in opal rings for sale
for over 5000 years. When many garnet crystals are gathered into a cavity, they are
compared to a ripe pomegranate. Cut as brilliant, garnets are used as ring stones and as
large pendants, cabochons are often cut and engraved. It is the name given to both nephrite
and jadeite which is not particularly hard but harder than steel. China, New Zealand and
Alaska provide good jade. Burma too. In Brazil it has been used naturally for weapons and
equipment since Neolithic times and later for fine carving. Aztec used Z. In ancient Egypt the
stone was called Nemehen. Pure jade is made in different colours and mostly in pieces,
including white impurities. The most valuable of all jade is "Imperial Jade" transparent
emerald green chromium. It has always been revered as a sacred stone in China. Its quality
as a gemstone is judged by its intensity of green colour and its coolness to the touch.
Jadeite is the rarest of jades and remains the only commercial source in Myanmar. Most of
the Central American jadeite originates in Guatemala. Soap Z is a low grade word commonly
used for carving decorations, lamp stands, etc.Lapis lazuli ,These rocks contain varying
amounts of blue silicate lazurite and calcite and gold flakes of pyrite brass which are found
more in low quality material. Afghanistan has the best quality which consists mostly of
lazurite and deep blue. In ancient times it was also known as "Sapphires". The Egyptians
ground it in pigments for use in paintings and murals and eye shadows, and in making
amulets and symbols,Later it was ground for use as a pigment in religious images for the
glorious blue of Madonna's clothing. In China, royal seals and engravings were made. It is
considered a sacred stone in Buddhism. Lapis Lazuli is one of the oldest jewellery items - it
has been known and used for over 6000 years. It was mined near Lake Baikal in
Afghanistan and Siberia, but is now widely grown in Chile.Moonstone is a feldspar,
composed of calcium sodium or potassium aluminium silicate. Sri Lanka is the most
important source of Moonstone. India produces strong colored stones such as beige, pink,
green, yellow, grey, white and brown. It is considered as a sacred stone in India and
according to tradition it is always cut into kabochan. It is an important stone in Ayurvedic
medicine.Like other stones, it has a beautiful luminous glow, and its special lustre is called
"adulteration" and the most precious sheet when it is blue. All over the world it is associated
with the moon and is a very popular semi-precious stone used to make jewellery
everywhere. Their charm compares with their gentle bright and elusive shine and above all
with their quality softness, strength and lustre of face jewellery.Mens opal rings are one of the
few gem minerals which is non crystalline. Opals are referred to in history and in legend.
Pliny is said to have liked it and Orpheus is said to have declared that the opal 'fills the heart
of the gods with joy". Shakespeare refers to ... "this miracle and Queen of gems". Opal
consists of pure silica (silicon combined with oxygen) with traces of numerous compounds
which explains the many differing types. Opals were rare in antiquity. It is thought to have
become commonly known only after the time of Alexander the Great. The only known mines
in the earliest times were the Carpathian Mountains. The stone is extremely porous with the
weight varying in proportion to the amount of contained water. The colours are determined
by structure and the light which causes ever changing effect. Finest opal and opalized wood
and fossils are found also in Australia at Coober Pedy and Andamooka. France also
supplies some and also Idaho... Opals are usually cut as en cabochon. Their varieties
include - Hungarian opals are very fine and were once popular in Europe.Mexican Opals fine
transparent variety of opal - Black opals are extremely vivid flashes of colour including red,
with dark background and of highest value Milky opal or white opals are opaque with smaller
and less spectacular softer markings and colours. Fire opals or Harlequin Opal is the finest
quality and variety of gemstone Water Opal is clear and colourless with internal play of
colour. Rose Opal or potch opal has a beautiful pink colour but opaque. Hydrophane Opal is
opaque but appears colourless in water. In addition to corals, this very popular gemstone
used in making jewellery is found not on land but in the sea and therefore does not have the
same composition or properties. Care must be taken to protect the quality of pearls. Pearls
are made of calcium carbonate formed in an oyster. The basic irritation is usually a grain of
sand that stimulates the oyster to cover its own body with secretions - eventually forming the
well-known round and perfect pearl. The lustre of the pearl comes from the minute crackles
on its surface - subtler than opal. Their lustre increases the warmth of the human body and
so there is a real basis for the habit of letting the shop attendants wear pearl strings. The
different qualities of pearls depend on the colour and size and range from the smallest "seed
pearl" to a rare gem of significant size. Sanskrit pearls have been produced in China for
centuries, as in Japan, Australia and the Pacific.Next to diamonds, rubies (and sapphires)
are the most valuable of the gems. Ruby is a variety of corundum, when corundum contains
chromium, it becomes ruby, when it contains titanium and iron, and so blue-sapphire. The
best in the world came from Myanmar, Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as Burma,
Thailand, India and Ceylon. Burmese are exceptionally beautiful - found near Mogo NE.
Mandalay. "Pigeon Blood" is the highest on the Ruby price scale.Thai rubies are often found
with spinel and are darker red than Burmese rubies. A fine ruby is a great gemstone. Ruby
has been successfully produced artificially since 1904. But real rubies are valuable because
of their rarity and therefore did not decrease in commercial value, actually increased. Ruby is
used in space research to communicate with communication systems to cut sound from the
earth's surface and to lift beams from space.Pink sapphires, blue sapphires and yellow
sapphires are found in Thailand and East Africa. They are hardness beside diamonds and
therefore wear resistant. Australia is the largest producer of blue and golden sapphires. Non-
Blue Sapphire White Sapphire or Golden Sapphire. The largest known sapphire was 950
carats from Burma. Australia's largest was 886 carats in 1934 from Queensland. There have
been found star sapphires and star rubies that contain fine fibre crystals that give the effect
of stars when cut into n cabochon.Topaz is an aluminium silicate containing about 20%
water and fluorine and comes in several colours. Yellow quartz is sold today under the name
of topaz and it is one of the most popular colours, although there are others which are
greenish and of reddish tint.. Golden Topaz from Brazil is a golden brown to pink colour. The
main suppliers are Brazil, Germany and Russia. Japan also produces topaz. Topaz is harder
than Rock crystal and is known for its huge crystals - a colourless one from Brazil was found
weighing as much as 600 pounds, well formed and clear throughout. The largest known
topaz was cut in 1977 and weighed 21,327 carats. Another is known at 36,853 carats. Found
in Australia, topaz is usually light yellow, green and blue also. Hardness 8 and Orthorhombic
crystals are brilliant and beautiful stones found in quartz rose rocks. Associated with tin ores
. Tinted by heating. Sky blue topaz found in the Scottish Highlands, Brazil and Siberia. This
stone is composed of aluminium copper sulphate aluminium and copper hydrated
phosphate) and it is only moderately hard. The Egyptians were first known to excavate it in
Sinai more than 6000 years ago. The best is said to have been found in Naishapur, Iran,
where it has been excavated for nearly 3000 years. It is also found in Sinai, Turkestan and
Tibet. Colours range from pale blue to deep green / blue. The water content affects the colour
of the stone. It responds to human touch and warmth and is used in the Middle East as a
reflection of baby health in goats. It is relatively soft and has a waxy lustre. If it is perforated
and absorbed during the application of skin oils and cosmetics, its colour may deteriorate. It
is famous for its color change when solid effects are nearby and for this reason it was
attached to the baby's cradle to reflect the baby's vitality and to warn them about any change
in tone and color. Some believe that it becomes moist and changes color when warned
against toxins. The gem is considered a promise of true affection and a promise of evil
effects. The green variety is found in New Mexico and Australia.
