1. Angry Birds is a strategy/
puzzle game
The concept came from lots of sketches of
wingless birds. It is successful because it is
very cheap, but also very fun and addictive so
it quickly became the top rated app on the
app store and then a lot more people started
to try it and obviously liked it so it became a
huge brand. There is a free version, but it has
lots of advertisements so many users paid to
have them removed. The success can also be
put down the funny and engaging characters.
It has currently sold about
12 million copies on Apples App Store alone.
The idea of the game is quite simple, you have to use the birds to
destroy all of the pigs on level. Although while simple has proven to be very
successful.
2. iFitness is a
personal
training app
It is currently one of the best selling apps on the
App store. This is because it can be marketed to
just about anyone who goes to the gym or wants
some advice for good workout routines and exercises
to do work specific body parts. It works very well as it
has lots of images to let you know exactly how to do
the exercise you want to do and includes lots of things
to track your progress and it even comes with some
preloaded routines or you can add your own. Plus it
is very reasonable price wise so most people will
buy it as it is very good value for money.
Overall it is a very useful app for anyone wanting to get in shape
or who needs help in the gym but cant afford a personal trainer.
3. The BBC news app
is a news/media app
It is a very useful app obviously as you can view
recent news stories from almost anywhere
at your fingertips. It doesn’t really have a specific
target market it is just aimed at anyone who wants to
keep up to date with everything that’s going on in the
world. It is currently the most popular news app on
the app store. It has a very nice User Interface and is
very easy to use. As the BBC is one of the biggest
companies in the world it is known as a good source
and this good reputation could be a reason for the apps
great success.
Overall this app is very useful for anyone who wants to keep up to date
with the news, plus it is free so most people will just download it
even if they never intend to use it.
4. Doodle Jump is a game app
In Doodle Jump the aim is to guide a four-legged
creature called "The Doodler" up a never-ending series
of platforms without falling. The simple yet addictive
gameplay is a good formula and it works very well here
as you will keep coming back to beat you previous high
score or your friends. The game has currently sold about
10 million copies. It is aimed at people who just want a
simple, cheap and addictive experience without having
to spend hours in game to have some fun and in this
regard it works very well. However the price tag could
throw some potential customers away as there are lots
of just as good clones out there, but just for the name it
is a ‘crime’ to have anything but Doodle Jump.
It also has a very clean, creative and altogether just nice
art style which is instantly recognisable which is
good as it will get you more publicity and show that
your game is very popular.
5. Scrabble is a puzzle game
The Scrabble app is just an app for the game
we all know and love where you can play online
with your friends, so obviously it appeals to a lot
of people. There is also a free version which
doesn’t include all of the features but you can still
play a good old classic game, plus it also serves
as a sort of demo for users to try and then if they
like it they can buy the full version and if not they
can just not buy the full app and save money. It
is one of the most popular game apps on the app
store with good reason as it is a family favourite
and most people have already played it or
know what it is so they wont have to spend a long
time learning to play.
It also has Facebook integration so users can share their scores with friends
and challenge their friends using Facebook. Plus it has a training mode so
you can learn how to beat your friends if they are just too good.
6. ESPN Score Centre is a news/media app
ESPN Score Centre is a good app for keeping
up to date with your favourite teams and how they
are currently doing, so if you cant be there and you
cant watch it, it can be a great tool for getting up to
date real time commentary on the games you want.
it obviously appeals to sports fans and it has been
marketed to them. It has lots of built in features such
as being able to track certain teams and leagues, plus
it has a good UI as it is easy to navigate through
different sports and competitions. It is also free so it wont
even set you back so most people who are even vaguely
interested in sports would do well to get this app.
However to keep this free means it is littered with advertisements which can get in
the way of stories and you will accidentally click on them which closes the app and
you have to navigate back to where you were.
7. Facebook Mobile is a social networking app
Facebook Mobile is a very popular app for one
of the biggest companies in the world. It was always
going to be very popular and is marketed for everyone
who uses Facebook, which is a lot of people. It is free
just like the real website and maintains that it will stay
that way. It has been known to be quite buggy but lots
of fixes and patches have been released so it is being
worked on. It has a very good user interface.
It works very well at the moment but it
still has sleight glitches and its free so
many people will get it and lots of
people use Facebook and it works
with a few adverts within the app so
that they can get some profit from it.
