Based on Price (2008), leaders deserve a “moral exception” in the society where their rule-breaking and promise-breaking actions are justified since they have power over the locals that they lead. Price outlines various assumptions that make leaders exceptional in the society and that make them take part in rule-breaking. one assumption that Price outlines is that leaders serve group ends. In relation to Trump, I belive that the assumption is valid to brand leaders as exceptional members of the society as we have seen in various cases were Trump was only acting in favor of certain groups while ignoring the rights of other minority groups e.g. after banning all transgender individuals in the military. Again, he outlines that leaders adhere to common leader norms which is exactly what President Trump is doing concerning the issue banning of transgender in the military. By doing so, Trump is portraying himself as an exceptional individual who is just trying to adhere to common leader norms while ignoring the members of the transgender community. Price also elaborates that leaders only serve the groups that they deem valuable. Indeed, this is what he is doing. He also points out thefact that leaders know how to use their power as one of the assumptions that make them exceptional members of the community. Trump’s open hatred towards the LGBTQ community is as a result of the political power he is entitled to and hence he can decide to use as he wants to. Relating to the actions of followers, Price affirms that exceptional leaders have traits that make their supporters continue supporting them as they feel that their actions are justified. For instance, one can argue that Trump’s action was only received negatively by the minority human rights activist groups such as LGBTQ community while the large remaining population praised his bold move as they believed it was justified according to the norms and the underlying societal beliefs. Price also argues that leaders possess a leadership related personality that leads them to support some behaviour.
Trumps followers sternly back him in whatever he does and this, I believe, makes them agree to grant him a moral exception for the actions he recently took relating to the ban of transgender individuals in the military. Although there has are no explicit conversations of his followers voicing their views on the matter, there has been a number of individuals that have opened up to support Trumps decision concerning the ban of transgender in military. Indeed, this is why he even secured the critical support from the courts that upheld his decision and turned into a national law. Who and What Ought Government Represent?
With the close of another presidential election cycle, we once again heard complaints about the Electoral College, that mysterious group of appointees sent from each state to officially choose the next president in accordance with formulae determined by each state. That most states choose the formula of committing all their electors to the candidate who wins the plurality of votes in that state’s popular election is coincidental and established by no federal mandate. At any rate, the fact that more and more people in this country think this to be an undemocratic way of choosing a president might give us pause to reflect on what it means for government to be representative in the first place.
The description of government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” doesn’t solve the problem, since here at issue is not just who it is to be represented, but the manner of representation. Still, it is important to settle who “the people” are or ought to be, so let’s start there.
One common assumption is that the people are the citizens of the state or nation in question. But this leaves out all other residents. Should government only represent its citizens and not its residents? If so, would that not quite probably lead to a form of tyranny by citizens over non-citizens?
Perhaps one might agree to extend the representation, but only to legal residents. But there are strong considerations – both of a utilitarian and non-utilitarian nature – arguing for inclusion of illegal residents as well. Not to represent them is either to ignore their presence or to oppose their presence. Either policy leads to social chaos, since such a large group as this cannot be easily removed or treated with contempt without a great deal of harm not only to them, but to citizens and other legal residents as well.
A final thought on the “who” question is that we may be on the verge of having to recognize that our president must in some significant sense represent not just citizens and residents of this land, but of the whole world.
As to the manner of representation, baffled by the Electoral College are perhaps taken by the assumption that government‘s representative duty is exclusively to the individual. But this is clearly not how America’s forefathers thought, and their reasons are grounded in the fear of what John Stuart Mill called the Tyranny of the Majority: that a majority can stifle the voice and political life of minority voices and thus thwart the benefits of democracy, which are grounded in freedom of speech and cultivation of diversity of opinion.

Politics involves activities related to influencing government, such as debates between political parties vying for power. Political institutions establish a society's formal distribution of authority and relationships with other political entities. A political system comprises the legal institutions that make up a government or state. The most common types of political systems worldwide include democracy, republic, monarchy, communism, and dictatorship. Good leadership qualities encompass fairness, service over self-interest, accountability, honesty, and global thinking with local action.
