Digital Social Innovation and the Impact of Data Analytics Cybera Inc.
Digital technologies and data analytics are enabling new forms of digital social innovation. Non-profit organizations can benefit from these approaches. For example, Crisis Text Line uses data analytics to help volunteers provide support to those in crisis via text. A DataThon project for Commuter Challenge Calgary analyzed transportation data to understand commuting behaviors. Another DataThon project for Distress Centre Calgary analyzed call data to gain insights that can help the organization better support those in distress. Data analytics has the potential to positively impact social issues when applied by non-profits and through initiatives like DataKind and Data for Good.

Crowdsourcing involves tapping into online communities to utilize their expertise, knowledge, or time to achieve specific goals. There are several models of crowdsourcing including managed knowledge discovery, distributed human intelligence tasking, broadcast search, and peer vetted creative production. Common applications include crowdfunding, collective creativity, collective knowledge, community building, civic engagement, cloud labor, and open innovation. The document outlines seven habits for successful crowdsourcing including enterprise crowdsourcing, crowd powered business, open innovation, community building, and cloud labor.
The document discusses the development of an "Interactive Charter" to help organizations become more interactive. It outlines commitments organizations would make by signing the charter, including recognizing the business case for interactivity and committing to remove barriers. It describes plans to get initial signatories, pilot the charter process with 10-20 organizations, and develop a published toolkit of lessons learned to support wider adoption. Input is sought on next steps such as sponsorship models and getting more individual endorsements.

TechSoup is similar to another international project, ATIS4all, in that they are both networks that engage partners globally but act locally, use IT as their focus, and connect companies to the social sector.
The document discusses strategies for digital government across six dimensions:
1) Moving from digitizing existing processes to designing processes digitally from the start
2) Shifting from an information-focused to a data-driven public sector
3) Changing from closed processes and data to being open by default
It also provides recommendations for next steps such as developing a digital government strategy, defining clear governance, updating legal frameworks, investing in enablers, and establishing policies for data, service design, and open data.
This document provides a roadmap for Phase II of Karlskrona's ICC Assessment and strategy. It outlines four key initiatives: City as a Platform, Demand Driven Development, Aligned and Empowered Workforce, and The Safe and Secure City. For each initiative, it describes contributors, the working team, impact timing, support needed, risks, key stakeholders, dependencies, milestones, and goals. Governance structures are defined to implement the roadmap, with a Steering Committee and teams for each initiative. Detailed implementation plans are then provided for the City as a Platform initiative.
ULI in Action on Transportation and Infrastructure: A Catalyst for Sustainabl...Virtual ULI
The Curtis Project in Minnesota aims to connect transportation and land use systems through an action plan developed by the Connect Transportation and Land Use Systems (CTLUS) Advisory Committee. The plan seeks to promote reinvestment in the Twin Cities region through partnerships between the public and private sectors. It identifies strategies to raise awareness of regional assets, provide education through site visits and conferences, and implement tools to support sustainable communities where housing, jobs, transportation and the environment are connected.
Towards Diffuse Forms of Public Governance: Service Design, Open Data and Dis...ServDes
This document discusses service design and open data in relation to the private rented housing market in the UK. It provides background on the history and current state of the private rented sector, which makes up a significant portion of the housing market but faces issues related to lack of regulation, information, and quality. The document introduces RentSquare, a platform that connects landlords and tenants directly to set optimal rent prices in a transparent manner. It discusses how RentSquare uses open data and could address imbalances in the private rental market through a demand-driven tool. The document also considers how such a disruptive technology could relate to policy implementation and governance, noting opportunities but also questions around adoption, accountability, and the role of government.

Success factors of Geneva’s e-Voting systemePractice.eu
The document summarizes the success of Geneva's remote e-voting system, which allowed up to 90,000 citizens to test e-voting as a complement to traditional methods between 2003-2006. The key success factors were a tightly controlled development process involving multidisciplinary teams, strong government support, and incremental trials and improvements. The system was positively reviewed and will likely become a regular voting method. Remote e-voting requires more than just technical procedures due to its impact on democratic rights, so the project emphasized communication, transparency, and addressing political and legal concerns.

Rethinking Business Models for the Creative Industriesguesta21300
The document discusses failures in launching new technology products and services in creative industries like publishing and music. It analyzes two focus groups, finding a split between traditional and tech-savvy approaches in publishing, and disagreements around cooperation and copyright in music. The conclusion is that a lack of heterogeneity within innovating teams and too much divergence between industry narratives limits cooperation and tapping of market knowledge, leading to failures. It proposes designing environments for innovative thinking by building cross-functional teams with time for experimentation to integrate different perspectives.
Local Digital Twins Conversations: Framing the Green + Digital TransitionSlim Turki, Dr.
This document discusses local digital twins and smart communities. It outlines a series of workshops and meetings between practitioners from European cities and regions to share experiences and insights around technologies, governance, and infrastructure for local digital twins. An ecosystem consists of projects that interact and collaborate with each other through shared goals, team members, customers, technology or value chains. Projects within an ecosystem maintain autonomy but also benefit from synergies. Modern communication technologies have reduced barriers to collaboration, making it more efficient to organize resources through collaboration to achieve larger goals. Ecosystems can support groups of organizations in learning from each other through shared infrastructure and exploring mutually beneficial ways of working together at low cost. This increased success and reduced risk for investors.
