Sub: Assessment report of Police Personnels on Mental Health and other parameters.
Dear Sir,
As per your approval, our team of Alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur and Psychologists
collected data from the Police Personnels on parameters of Mental Health and its
dimensions like positive self-evaluation, perception of reality, integration of personality,
autonomy, group oriented attitudes and environmental mastery. We have each kind of
assessment for individual, which is being analyzed across huge data (Scientifically
validated) for each profile. The article published in Indian Journal of Psychometry and
Education , an official organ of Indian Psychometric and Educational Research
Association
Here is the assessment of your Personnels on the above parameters:
(i) Mental Health: 26.66% of the personnels possesses poor mental health while
33.33% of them possess good mental health. Not only this, 40% of them scored
average on mental health which means that majority of the police personnels
need to give more attention to organizing the way they deal with the outer world
and avoid becoming preoccupied with their inner life. It revealed that most of
them need to develop patience and regulate their pace when dealing with others
and be more thoughtful to human aspects. Feeling capable and competent, being
able to handle normal level of stress, and lead an independent life and being able
to “bounce back” or recover from difficult situations, are all signs of mental health
which needs to be focussed upon.
(ii) Positive self-evaluation: It included self-confidence, self-acceptance, self
identity, feeling of worth-whilessness, realization of one’s potentialities, etc.
2. 46.67% of the police personnels evaluated their self positively, 27% had average
self-evaluation and 26.33% of them had poor self-evaluation which they need to
improve as positive self-evaluation encourages people to see things
optimistically.
(iii) Perception of reality: 63% of the personnels had good perception of reality,
25% scored average on it and only 12% of the personnels had poor perception of
reality which means that most of them have perception free from need distortion,
absence of excessive fantasy and a broad out look on the world.
(iv) Integration of personality: 49% of the personnels had average integrated
personality, 31% had good integration of personality while 20% were poor on this
aspect which indicated that most of them had a balance of psychic forces in
themselves and included the ability to understand and to share other people’s
emotions, the ability to concentrate at work and interest in several activities while
others need to improve on this.
(v) Autonomy: 57% high level of autonomy while 26% had moderate and 17% had
low level of autonomy which means that a majority of them have stable set of
internal standards for one’s action, dependence for own development upon own
potentialities rather than dependence on other people.
(vi) Group oriented attitudes: 67% of the police personnels showed poor group
oriented attitude which meant that they have little ability to get along with others,
work with others and have poor ability to find recreation. 24% showed average
while only 9% faired good on this dimension. This was an alarming situation and
need proper attention.
(vii) Environmental mastery: 63% exhibited average environmental mastery and
34% exhibited poor and 3% showed very poor environmental mastery.
Surprisingly, none of the police personnels faired good on this parameter that
3. included efficiency in meeting requirements, the ability to work and play, the
ability to take responsibilities and capacity for adjustment. This was again a
matter of great concern.
Thus, as mental health is directly tied to a person’s ability to deal effectively with the
demands and challenges of everyday life to be well-adapted and emotionally well-
adjusted, it is these cognitive affective factors that influence the general well-being of an
individual and his potential to meet desirable life expectations. Hence, it is advisable
from our team to provide them training on the following parameters-
(1) Stress Management
(2) Work Motivation
(3) Mental Health
Looking forward to hear from you,
