3. Explanation of “Mankind”
• The poem “Mankind” is a poem about the
internal strength of man. The ability to
believe in an idea so strongly that we would
risk anything in the protection and pursuit of

hopelessness of struggling in theses affairs,
but man will fight.

But one fine day while robbing a deserted bank,
Is it a bird? Or a plane?
People gaped at the sky,
And I felt a neck breaking pain.
The hero was back, I could scream with joy.
Hit me hard, That’s my boy!
Take the money , Save the young.
And throw me to the air, I land in the dung.
Later that day after I had washed myself,
I went on with my daft plans.
‘Cause I knew you were back and I was so glad, Once again I
had to grab the chance.
I know this sounds crazy,
But I think of you every day.

9. Explanation of Dearest Enemy
The poem takes an interesting view from the
normal hero plot. The villain wins defeating the
hero and taking control of the people. The
villain then sees what he wanted. Not the
power or money but the conflict of the hero.
The villain is born a villain and wants nothing
more than to fight the hero. He now is longing
for his old foe to return and cheers knowing he
can ounce again fight his old friend.

The poet is very thankful to his ancestors and
the past in general. He accredits all that we
have to the great thinkers. The speaker also says
that without the knowledge and gifts of the past
that life wouldn’t be worth living. We also have
to preserve the knowledge of the past and be
careful not to tread on it. The poem has no
rhyme scheme.
