3. We are pleased to present the key results of the projects
under the “Food for Progress Partnership” between
Planet Aid, Inc. and the USDA – 20 months after the
official launch in March 2007.
As an introduction we will briefly sum up the main
objectives of the Partnership.

4. Objective 1 * Agricultural Development
Establish 240 Farmers Clubs with 12,000 members to
increase net earnings by at least 30%.
Objective 2 * HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care
Cover a population of 400,000 people of which
240,000 will be reached with individual
counseling for behavior change through the program
called “TCE - Total Control of the Epidemic.”

5. Objective 3 * Teacher Training
Support the training of 210 rural primary school
teachers in Malawi at DAPP’s Teacher Training
Colleges.
Construct and start operating a new Teacher Training
College in Shire Highlands Educational Division and
support the training of 92 student teachers.
Objective 4 * utrition
American Soybean Association to carry out nutrition
training for 200 Field Officers and 150 students.

Organizing the 12,000 members into clubs, which are
working closely together and exchanging experiences,
is a key factor in achieving good results.

Crop yield has improved by 22%.

The significant
improvement in
access to water is
an important factor
in increasing crop
yield and income.

The members’ income has also increased due to
other interventions such as fire wood saving stoves.

The variety in crops has increased by 60%.
13. Access to water for irrigation and drinking has improved by
250% via rope pumps and motorized water pumps.

8,900 of the farmers have enough food for their families.
15. Expected Results over 3 Years
Establish and operate 4 TCE Areas covering 400,000 people.
Reach at least 60% of the target population with individual
counseling.
Create demands and access to health services on a local level -
e.g. VCT, PMTCT, ARV’s etc.
Mobilize 1,000 Passionates to be active in the fight against
HIV/AIDS.

The 200 Field Officers have reached 423,451
individuals, meeting them in their homes.

- from HIV/AIDS
awareness, income
generation to sport and
drama.

152,550 people have gone for HIV-testing and know their
status.

19,690 pregnant women have been referred for “Pregnant
Mother-to-Child Transmission” advice.

590 vegetables gardens have been established by the
“Passionates” running Positive Living Clubs.
22. Expected Results over 3 Years
210 teachers will graduate from or will be studying
at the Teacher Training College of Chilangoma.
7,500 children in rural areas have received lessons.
A new Teacher Training College in
Shire Highlands will be constructed and equipped.
92 students will be enrolled at the new Teacher
Training College supported by the
USDA agreement - but will graduate after the
project period.

During the project period 240 student teachers
have been or are still being supported.

Graduates and student teachers in their practice period
are teaching 16,000 pupils in rural primary schools.

Both graduates and student teachers are also
teaching after normal school hours and thus
reaching another 3,600 children.

The students are using computers for studies
at the College. From a database the students
pick and solve tasks from the curriculum.

The expansion of Chilangoma TTC is now complete.
The capacity is 100 students per annual intake.

The new College is DAPP Amalika TTC.
Phase 1 is completed and thus made it possible to
start operation from late Oct 08.

Before the official opening of the College many of the students
and the staff took part in a “Building Camp”

Phase 1 comprises facilities for 64 students

200 Field Officers and 150 student teachers trained
in basic nutrition and cooking with soy products.

Student teachers and Field Officers have completed the
nutrition training. A focus of the last module was, among
other things, tooth brushing.
