A tepee is a traditional home of Plains Indians, made of buffalo hide stretched over long wooden poles arranged in a cone shape. Tepees provided warm shelter in winter and cool housing in summer and could comfortably hold 30-40 people. While men were responsible for tasks outside the tepee like hunting and pole collection, women had authority over the interior, directing activities and behavior within their family's tepee home.
