Nader Dabit - Connecting Mobile & Web Applications to AWS AppSync.pdfAmazon Web Services
In this session we'll build a new AWS AppSync API & look at the different ways we can connect to it from both web & mobile applications. We'll demonstrate operations like mutations, queries, subscriptions, as well as offline functionality.
Marcia Villalba "Developing Serverless Applications with GraphQL"Fwdays
I will introduce then AppSync service and its characteristics. AppSync is an AWS managed service that has a lot of really interesting functionalities out of the box, for example, authentication or native connection with DynamoDB. Then we will move to a practical part where I will show you how to get started with your first Serverless GraphQL application using AppSync.
Build a Photo-Sharing App with AI-Powered Face and Object Detection (MOB306) ...Amazon Web Services
In this workshop, we build a data-driven web app that lets users upload to shared, secure photo galleries. We use AWS AppSync to get up and running quickly with a GraphQL API that backs our data in Amazon DynamoDB. In addition, we demonstrate how to use AWS Amplify library to authenticate users, communicate with our API, and manage photo uploads. Finally, we add in AI-powered face and object tagging using Amazon Rekognition, allowing users to discover photos without any manual data entry.

Containers are usually stateless and fault tolerant, and Amazon EC2 Spot Instances are a great match for powering your Amazon EC2 compute for these workloads. In this workshop, you learn how to provision, manage, and maintain your Amazon Kubernetes clusters with Amazon EKS at any scale on Spot Instances to architect for optimizations on cost and scale. We dive deep using hands-on material to provision and scale worker nodes, handle interruptions, and design for fault tolerance. We also demonstrate successfully managing a suddenly spiky workload. This workshop helps architects, engineers, and developers understand how to run a containerized environment on Spot Instances. All attendees must bring their own laptop (Windows, macOS, and Linux all supported). Tablets are not appropriate. We also recommend having the current version of Chrome or Firefox installed.

High Performance Computing (HPC) has been driving technology advancements for many decades. HPC enables performance-demanding applications and workloads to solve complex problems while dramatically reducing time to solution. With a history of requiring very large data centers, HPC is now on the edge of a paradigm shift. The AWS Cloud will allow customers to have access to near infinite compute and storage resources, without the overhead of running their own data centers. There are a vast number of HPC segments and verticals that are already seeing great success running their workloads on AWS. Life Sciences, Financial Services, Energy & Geo Sciences, as well as Manufacturing are successfully deploying their applications on AWS. In these two sessions we will discuss how AWS can help you run HPC workloads in the cloud. The first session will be a general introduction to HPC on AWS.

Streamlined Entitlements with AWS Lake Formation - Anusha DwivedulaAWS Chicago
Morningstar faced challenges with centralized data management and entitlements across their data lake and Amazon Redshift. They implemented a tag-based permissions system in Lake Formation to simplify entitlements management. They then created an in-house mapper to translate the tag-based Lake Formation grants and revokes to equivalent resource-based grants and revokes in Amazon Redshift. This provided a consistent permissions approach across both systems and enabled faster data access, more automation and self-service of permissions.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
