The pistil is the female part of a flower and consists of the ovary, which contains ovules, the stigma, which receives pollen and may be sticky or hairy, and sometimes a stalk-like style connecting the ovary and stigma. A flower can have one or more pistils made up of carpels that carry the ovules.
