Good evening:
Tonight, we’d like to introduce you to a new technology we will be using to communicate to the public in times of emergency as well as providing information about routine occurrences of Town government. The product is known as Ping 4 Alerts; it is a smart phone application will allow public safety officials to provide timely information to the citizens of Franklin.
Ping4alerts! is a free Apple and Android app that uses the location-based technology inherent in today’s smartphones to deliver push notifications within a highly-localized area. Using any web-based browser, Town Agencies can draw a shape on a map as small as a street block or as large as the entire Town to push an alert to the space inside the selected area. It allows us allows us to send alerts that can include images, custom audio, and mobile web links.
Ping4alerts! protects user anonymity and does not require users to provide any personally identifiable information such as a phone number, street address, or email address. These mobile notifications are delivered over the Internet through GPS, cellular, and available Wi-Fi networks. Citizens who download ping4alerts! can also receive weather advisories and alerts from the National Weather Service and notifications from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
Other features include the ability to push messages automatically to our Twitter and Face book pages, so we can reach a large group of citizens with the use of one program. Ping4alert users also have the ability to view nearby level 2 and level 3 sex offenders and to establish watched locations for home, work, school, or a relative’s house to receive alerts for multiple locations.
Next we’d like to provide some samples of how Town Agencies will use this new communication tool. For example the police department will push out

The system is also used by the Massachusetts's Emergency Management Agency –or MEMA. They have developed a brief public service announcement which I’d like to show you as it does a nice job summarizing this new and exciting means of communications.
The fire department is now using this app to inform citizens whether burning is allowed each day during the burning season.
Other Town agencies will be rolling out the app within the next several weeks.
Once the rollout is complete, we believe Ping4alerts will prove to be a valuable toll to keep Franklin residents informed and safe.
Thank you for your attention – we look forward to any questions you may have.
