2. In today's podcast we'll talk about what's important when starting to learn piano.

3. My goal is to make your learning experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible,

4. but first, let's be honest.

5. Let me be totally blunt with you by saying that learning piano is not easy.

6. There are no shortcuts.

7. If anyone tells you differently, they're lying.

8. However, with that being said, you should be absolutely aware

9. that anyone with functional fingers and at least one good ear can do it.

10. You can do it too.

11. It doesn’t matter if you're an absolute beginner,

12. it doesn't matter if you've never read a note of music,

13. or have no prior musical experience whatsoever.

14. If you possess a desire to learn, you can become a confident pianist

15. with impressive skills in a very reasonable amount of time.

16. There are three requirements. Good instructions, commitment, and reasonable expectations.

17. Learning and mastering piano is definitely not going to be easy,

18. but with the right approach it's certainly not even nearly as hard as most people believe.

19. It's all in the right approach.

20. There is certainly a wrong way and a right way to start learning piano.

21. Unfortunately, most people do it the wrong way.

22. Whatever you do, don't be one of those people.

23. If you can manage this, you're halfway there.

24. Here are some of the most common mistakes that many beginners make and that you should avoid:

25. 1. Don't have consistent step-by-step instructions

26. 2. Search for tidbits of information all over the internet

27. 3. Learn by trial and error

28. 4. Try to figure things out by themselves

29. 5. Develop bad playing habits

30. 6. Have unrealistic expectations.

31. These are all surefire ways to get frustrated and discouraged.

32. From the get-go, it's important to learn how to play correctly.

33. When you're just starting out, it's very easy to develop bad habits,

34. which can later on be very difficult to unlearn.

35. Proper guidance and step-by-step learning is crucial for

36. smooth progression and enjoyable learning experience.

37. The best way to learn piano is by having a good and consistent teacher.

38. Do you really need a teacher?

39. Yes, you do.

40. But it doesn't have to be an expensive, flesh and blood type of teacher.

41. Nowadays, you have many other, much more affordable solutions.

42. Internet is a great place to find information and as far as piano lessons for beginners are concerned,

43. there are certainly tons of them available online, both free and paid.

44. My experience, unfortunately, is that most of them simply don't deliver.

45. There are, luckily, a few exceptions.

46. If you're really serious about learning piano,

47. don't waste any more of your time and energy by searching for tidbits of information all over the internet.
