Sleep and sleep cycles were presented by an assistant professor. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and sleep spindles, which are neural activity marking the transition from waking to sleep, were discussed. Circadian rhythms, the 24-hour cycle including sleep, are regulated by the circadian clock which responds to light and dark and helps control functions like sleep schedule, appetite, temperature, hormones, alertness, performance, blood pressure, and reaction times.
