Helen Hayes Hospital 1999 – 2011 Physical Therapist Assistant
Inpatient rehabilitation hospital, specializing in Spinal Cord Injuries, Amputees,
Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Stroke patients, with comprehensive experience in
Orthopedic and Cardiac patients as well. Worked in an interdisciplinary team
approachwith OT, ST, and Case Management in order to provide outstanding
medical care to victims of traumatic injuries. Duties also included all aspects of
discharge planning, needs assessment for home environment, referrals for outside
sources and comprehensive case management support.
Patient cases included coma, vent-dependent, complete and incomplete SCI and
TBI injuries, working at varying levels of ability to return available function to
patient. Seating and adaptive equipment, in addition to gait training, balance, group
and individual sessions were essential to rehabilitation and performed daily.
Acted as a clinical instructor for eleven years for students, providing all aspects of
training to perform necessary job tasks, improve level of knowledge in the area of
inpatient rehabilitation, and collaborated with various educational facilities with
regards to interns. In addition acted as President of Physical Therapy Council,
assisted in adaptive sports programs, fund raising and social activities for staff and
patients.
