Team building is the process of establishing collaboration and trust among team members. It involves several stages: forming, storming, norming, and performing. In forming, the team defines goals and strategies and determines roles. Storming occurs as the task proves difficult and members resist. During norming, members accept the team, rules, and each other. In performing, the team works cohesively with understanding of strengths, weaknesses, and how to resolve conflicts. For a team to succeed, it requires commitment to shared goals, defined roles and responsibilities, effective communication systems, and positive interpersonal relationships. Each member contributes to building an effective team.
1. A business meeting that I had attended
This photo was an annual crew
meeting that every employee in
McDonalds had to attend. The
managers discussed with the
crew about the latest updates
of the store. They also talked
about the accomplishments
that we reached that year and
the expected goals for next
year. Everyone made some
recommendations on how we
could improve our store and to
bring in more customers. I
learned that to achieve our
objectives, we had to work
together and help each other.
In this way, we were able to set
our goals to make our company
more successful.
2. Me interacting with my store manager
This photo was taken when I received
my three year award as an employee
in McDonalds. I accepted the award
with a great honor and talked with
my store manager about the things I
could improve on. He said to continue
doing what I do best and that is to
satisfy my customer’s needs. I
learned that I had to persevere and
work hard to gain the respect of my
co-workers and managers. By
showing what I was capable of, my
skills and my abilities made me
unique. I was recognized as one of
the best employees that McDonalds
had.
3. Me and my friends volunteering for a
good cause
This photo was taken when I
volunteered for the Canadian
Cancer Society. I directed those
who were participating in the relay
marathon to register in the right
place. I helped the community to
raise awareness of cancer by
giving flyers, brochures and free
merchandise. I also learned from
the testimonies and experiences of
the survivors to be strong and not
to give up. Lastly, I learned that
with everyone’s support, the event
was successful because it achieved
its goal of raising enough money
to make an impact of fighting
against cancer.
4. Me and my colleagues in Ryerson
University during our orientation week
This photo was taken during
my frosh week when I
attended Ryerson University.
The teachers helped us to
organize our classes, meet
new friends and adapt to a
new environment. We were to
form a group based on our
classes and to participate in a
range of activities. We were
encouraged to work together
and voice out our opinions. In
the end, I worked well with
my teammates and got an
award. This promoted
communication and teamwork
in our group. As a result, we
received a warm welcome by
our seniors and our teachers.
5. Me giving a presentation in my
Accounting class This photo was taken when I was
presenting for our case study in
our Intermediate Accounting 1
Class. I introduced ourselves and
gave a detailed explanation about
our case study. Our case study
was about Hanley Limited and we
were to evaluate if the company is
able to list their shares on the
stock market. I presented the
problem, objective, and the
analysis of the company. I was the
leader of the group and I had to
assign the parts to my group
members. I made sure that they
did their assigned tasks. Everyone
cooperated and we were able to
hand in the Case Study Evaluation
on time. We presented in an
orderly manner and we got a good
mark as a result.
