During my JA in a day visit with Spencer Elementary I was able to see certain attributes
which distinguished my strong suits, and I also seen those in which I can use some practice
enhancing. Core values I believe portrayed were respect, passion, transparency, adaptability,
giving back, leadership, education, an open mind, and friendship. Seeing that we were dealing
with a younger and not yet mature audience showed that maybe my thought leadership could use
more fine tuning, but though we stayed just a little, we were able to get personal with the class
and show more care and affection for them as individuals then just visitors.
Communication along with collaboration & teamwork was a big part in success with the
audience considering that me and my partner have never worked with each other and knew
nothing of the attributes we each possess, but were able to mesh our skills and take advantage of
our strengths, including, team building and leading with the students.
As far as personality, I believe, along with comments from other business leaders, that my
personality can take me a really long way in being a productive individual in many different
industries. During this volunteer work, I had to be positive, strategic, creative, flexible, focused,
inspirational, compassionate, patient, confident, friendly, and very energetic in order to maintain
the attention, and motivation needed from the class in order for it to be a successful and positive
learning event, not only for the students, but for myself.
My image that I was going for was professional and sophisticated in order for the class to know
that we were there with the intentions of teaching, but I also came off as hip and cultured in order
for the class to be able to relate to me and vice versa. It is always important to relate to your
audience in order for them to actually hear you.
I can use the JA in a day to document my skills as I have in the above statements showing that if
I am able to attain the trust, respect, and cooperation of children and help focus their energy into
something positive while getting the task at hand accomplished, it goes to show the positive
effects I can have in a business with professionals.
In meeting with future employer, I can speak about the training I took personally such as
reviewing multiple videos on how I would be delivering the ‘assignments’ and how I practiced
the way I was going to do it in order to have a positive and effective delivery. I can explain the
planning and organizational behavior my partner and I had when it came to balancing our
personal lives, school, and work schedules, but making the time to get and be prepared within the
week for the delivery of our class and how positive it was for us and the students.
