Philosophy
- 1. Philosophy of Education
Ever since I attended Saint Mary’s College, a quote that constantly crosses my
mind and is deeply embedded in my educational philosophy comes from Sister
Madeleva, CSC. “We promise you discovery: the discovery of yourselves, the
discovery of the universe and your place in it.” I believe in the education of the
person, mentally, physically, and spiritual. However, I believe education should not
come at an expense of discovering the heart.
In an ever‐changing world, common truths, values, and beliefs remain. This
must be discovered through the education of the heart. It is my goal to keep these
steadfast even though change happens. I believe that given basic knowledge learned
well, these truths can be transferred into different situations with positive results. A
good foundation in basic subjects as well as extra curricular experiences will
provide for a solid future.
I believe respect and tolerance to be essential values for a classroom. I plan
to constantly refer to these values in my lessons. My childhood was deeply rooted in
the golden rule, and it is my intention to revive this in my classroom as well. I
believe that communication and honesty should be taught as a value Furthermore I
would ensure that all the aforementioned values and beliefs permeate everything I
teach, from actual lessons to my classroom decorations to my classroom demeanor.
With these characteristics, I also believe that my lessons will provide America with
well‐rounded value‐orientated individuals who can contribute to society.
