Dr. Mingyu Qiao's laboratory is currently in search of a Ph.D. candidate to commence in the spring of 2024. This opportunity is part of a recent project generously funded by the National Science Foundation. As a Ph.D. student in this role, you'll have the exciting opportunity to delve into a diverse array of subjects and cultivate vital skills essential for future biomanufacturing endeavors. Your responsibilities will encompass working with microalgae cultivation, mastering gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9, participating in the design and construction of photobioreactors, streamlining processes through automation, harnessing artificial intelligence for optimization and engineering applications, conducting economic analyses, and much more. The core research focus revolves around harnessing the potential of microalgae as a sustainable means of producing a wide spectrum of valuable bioproducts, including nutrients, biomaterials, and biologics such as peptides, proteins, and vaccines.
