Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

2. 1.1.
Poprzednim razem staraliśmy się „rozłożyć” gospodarkę
narodową na części składowe i poznać jej:
zasoby (naturalne, majątkowe i czynnika pracy)
strukturę (układ strukturalny: rodzajowy, przestrzenny,
własnościowo-podmiotowy i instytucjonalny),
oraz określić metody oceny jej kondycji – w układzie statycznym
(PKB, PNB, społeczna wydajność pracy, kapitałochłonność,
pracochłonność luka PNB) i dynamicznym (tempo wzrostu,
stopa wzrostu).
koncepcjami prowadzenia polityki gospodarczej.
3. 2.2.
Aby móc mówić o gospodarce w jej współczesnym rozumieniu,
musi istnieć zintegrowany organizm gospodarczy.
Z kolei do prowadzenia polityki gospodarczej konieczna jest:
władza publiczna
aparat urzędniczy (biurokracja)
rozwinięta gospodarka towarowo-pieniężna
społeczeństwo o ukształtowanej strukturze.
XV wiek rozpoczął okres kształtowania się zintegrowanych
organizmów gospodarczych i rozwój gospodarki towarowo-
pieniężnej.
XVI wiek to ostateczne starcie zacofanej gospodarczo potęgi
kolonialnej – Hiszpanii – z ekspansywną, innowacyjną Anglią,
zakończone klęską tej pierwszej (spektakularny koniec
„niezwyciężonej armady”).
4. 3.3.
XVII wiek – rozkwit protekcjonizmu
Okres dominacji bogacącej się warstwy kupieckiej oczekującej
od silnie scentralizowanej władzy państwa (monarchii
absolutnej) ochrony i wsparcia dla swoich przedsięwzięć
gospodarczych.
Panuje system protekcjonizmu państwowego określany jako
MERKANTYLIZM, twierdzący iż….
(i tu przypominamy sobie wiedzę z przedmiotu znanego pod
skrótową nazwą MSG)
5. 4.4.
….
synonimem bogactwa są kruszce szlachetne
źródłem bogactwa jest dodatni bilans handlowy
oparty na eksporcie towarów przetworzonych i
imporcie brakujących surowców
najbogatszy kraj wygrywa konkurencję z innymi
tylko dobrobyt pozwala kumulować siłę
nie wszystkie aktywności ekonomiczne są
równie ważne.
6. 5.5.
XVII wiek – protekcjonizm francuski
Dziesięciolecia scentralizowanego zarządzania państwem przez
pierwszych ministrów Francji*:
Armand-Jean de Richelieu (1624-1642)**
Julies’a Mazarin (1642-1661)
po czym władzy absolutnej króla Ludwika XIV, Króla-Słońce
(1661-1715, 54 lata!) i jego ministra finansów (Generalnego
Kontrolera Finansów 1661-1683) Jean-Baptist Colbert’a.
* Pierwszy minister Francji to stanowisko.
7. 6.6.
XVII wiek – protekcjonizm francuski
System gospodarczy zwany KOLBERTYZMEM:
scentralizowanie systemu finansowego,
ekonomicznego i administracyjnego
wysokie cła importowe (osłona krajowego
przemysłu)
ulgi podatkowe i premie dla eksporterów
monopol państwa na produkcję wielu towarów
zakładanie manufaktur królewskich
agresywna polityka kolonialna wsparta budową
potężnej floty wojennej (258 nowych okrętów w
czasach Colbert’a)
8. 7.7.
XVII wiek – protekcjonizm angielski
Okres walki o dominację handlową i kolonialną Anglii.
Akt nawigacyjny z 1651 roku uchwalony przez Kadłubowy
Parlament Olivera Cromwella:
angielskimi dowódcami i załogami
9. 8.8.
Akt nawigacyjny z 1660 roku (uchwalony przez parlament
monarchii Karola II):
cały zamorski handel Anglii i jej kolonii tylko statkami
angielskimi
najważniejsze towary z kolonii angielskich transportowane
jedynie do lub przez porty angielskie
10. 9.9.
XVII wiek – złoty wiek kompanii handlowych
Choć kompanie handlowe powstawały już w XVI w. (angielskie
kompanie: Moskiewska - 1555 r., Wschodnia - 1579 r.,
Lewantyńska - 1588 r.), prawdziwą potęgą staje się dopiero
Brytyjska Kompania Wschodnioindyjska (1600 r.)
wyposażona w przywileje:
monopolu handlowego z Indiami Wschodnimi (do 1813
r.) i Chinami (do 1833 r.)
utrzymywania własnej floty, armii i administracji
na terenach kolonizowanych
zawierania układów politycznych
posiadania własnej waluty.
11. 10.10.
Holandii – Holenderska Kompania Wschodnioindyjska
(1602 r.) i Holenderska Kompania Zachodnioindyjska
(1621 r.), ta ostatnia kolonizująca obie Ameryki (z prawem
prowadzenia wojen zaczepnych)
Danii – Duńska Kompania Wschodnioindyjska (1616 r.)
Francji – Francuska Kompania Wschodnioindyjska
(1664 r.)
i szereg innych.
14. 13.13.
XVIII wiek – odwrót od protekcjonizmu
Francuscy i angielscy przedsiębiorcy i kupcy wysuwają
postulaty swobody działania gospodarczego i wolności
ekonomicznej.
Rodzi się pogląd filozoficzno-ekonomiczny głoszący wolność
jednostki, określany jako LESEFERYZM:
laissez faire (franc. pozwólcie czynić, nie
sprzeciwiajcie się)
laissez passer (franc. pozwólcie przechodzić)
laissez aller (franc. pozwólcie biec)
Leseferyzm tworzy podstawy nowej polityki gospodarczej –
LIBERALIZMU GOSPODARCZEGO
15. 14.14.
XVIII-wieczny francuski liberalizm gospodarczy
Krach na paryskiej giełdzie latem 1720 r. (afera Johna Law i
upadek Stałej Kompanii Indyjskiej mającej królewski monopol
handlu na wszystkich morzach) powoduje, że francuscy
ekonomiści „odkrywają” ziemię jako lokatę kapitału.
We Francji rodzi się ruch intelektualny, FIZJOKRATYZM,
który:
jest przeciwny interwencjonizmowi
państwowemu w polityce gospodarczej (koniec
państwowych preferencji dla przemysłu i handlu)
żąda ograniczenia ingerencji państwa do sfery
robót publicznych i organizacji oświaty
za jedyną podstawę tworzenia dochodu uważa
ziemię
16. FizjokratyzmFizjokratyzm
FranFranççois Quesnay i jegoois Quesnay i jego tablica ekonomicznatablica ekonomiczna (1758 r.)(1758 r.)
Społeczeństwo to 4 klasy:
• właściciele ziemscy
• klasa produkcyjna (chłopi
oraz dzierżawcy ziemi)
• klasa jałowa (kupcy,
rzemieślnicy,
przemysłowcy, robotnicy)
• biedota (nie bierze udziału
w obiegu dóbr)
Punkt wyjścia obiegu dóbr:
• roczne nakłady
inwestycyjne w rolnictwie w
wysokości 3 mld liwrów
• dzięki „współpracy” sił
przyrody rolnictwo tworzy
produkt o wartości 5 mld
liwrów (z czego 2 mld to
produkt czysty).
15.15.
17. 16.16.
Przełom XVIII i XIX wieku – angielska klasyczna szkoła
ekonomii
1776 r. – Adam Smith wydaje dzieło „Badania nad naturą i
18. 17.17.
Zgodnie z angielską klasyczną szkołą ekonomii państwo
powinno ograniczyć swoje funkcje do:
ochrony porządku, w tym ochrony konkurencji i
wolności działania prywatnych przedsiębiorców
spraw obronności kraju
wymiaru sprawiedliwości
Angielska klasyczna szkoła ekonomii
tak jak francuski leseferyzm popierała liberalizm
gospodarczy, ale
źródło tworzenia wartości i dochodu upatrywała nie w ziemi, a
we wzroście potencjału przemysłowego i specjalizacji
poszczególnych krajów w produkcji dóbr, co pozwala obniżyć
koszty wytwarzania.
Gdzie szukać przyczyny odmiennego – w stosunku do
francuskiego leseferyzmu - podejścia angielskiego
liberalizmu do gospodarki?
19. 18.18.
II poł. XVIII wieku – rewolucja przemysłowa w Anglii
1735 r. – koks zastępuje węgiel drzewny przy wytopie
surówki
1763 r. – maszyna parowa Jamesa Watt’a
1785 r. – krosno mechaniczne (40-krotny wzrost wydajności
maszyn włókienniczych)
20. 19.19.
1817 r. – David Ricardo publikuje pracę „Zasady ekonomii
politycznej i opodatkowania”, analizującą istotę renty
ekonomicznej.
Podział produktu społecznego między grupy
społeczne to:
praca (i zapłata za nią) dla robotników
zysk dla kapitalistów
renta dla posiadaczy ziemskich
D. Ricardo twierdził, iż wzrostowi gospodarczemu
sprzyja swobodna wymiana handlowa między
krajami.
21. 20.20.
XIX wiek – liberalizm jednych, protekcjonizm innych
Liberalna Anglia…
eksportowych
dopuszczenie do handlu z brytyjskimi koloniami
statków innych bander – na zasadzie wzajemności.
23. 22.22.
niezdecydowana Francja…
O ile już rewolucja francuska przyznała wszystkim obywatelom
prawo prowadzenia działalności gospodarczej – produkcyjnej i
w 1792 r. rewolucja zastępuje monarchię I Republiką
w 1804 r. Francja zostaje proklamowana cesarstwem
po upadku Napoleona w 1815 r. znowu powraca monarchia
w 1830 r. tzw. rewolucja lipcowa tworzy monarchię
konstytucyjną, zastąpioną w 1848 r. przez II Republikę
w 1852 Napoleon III ogłasza powstanie II cesarstwa
w 1870 r. zostaje obalony, zaś Francja staje się III Republiką.

protekcjonistyczne Niemcy…
18 państw niemieckich tworzy Niemiecki Związek Celny (1834 r.)
– strefę wolnego handlu.
Zarazem zwyciężają idee tzw. narodowej szkoły w
ekonomii. Jej twórca, Friedrich List, zwolennik
protekcjonizmu ogłasza, iż:
korzyści z wolnej wymiany osiągają tylko kraje
gospodarczo silniejsze
należy chronić rodzimy przemysł przed
monopolem krajów wyżej rozwiniętych,
przynajmniej do czasu, aż osiągnie zdolność
samodzielnego konkurowania

… i równie protekcjonistyczne Stany Zjednoczone
XIX-wieczne Stany Zjednoczone są zwolennikiem liberalizmu
gospodarczego (wewnątrzkrajowego), prowadząc zarazem
konsekwentnie politykę protekcjonizmu (zewnętrznego), by
chronić swoją gospodarkę przed przemysłem angielskim.
Łączy się to z izolacjonizmem w polityce zagranicznej –
doktryna Monroe (1823 r.) głosi, iż:
„Kontynent amerykański nie może podlegać dalszej
kolonizacji ani ekspansji politycznej ze strony
Europy, w zamian zaś Stany Zjednoczone nie
będą ingerować w sprawy państw europejskich i
