• helium dilution and plethysmography – FRC
• Diffusing capacity – single breath test.
• ABG- PO2, PCO2, PH,
• Exercise tests- 6 min walk test - used to assess
progress of cardiovascular and pulmonary
functions.

• Other dynamic lung volumes and capacities
• -FEF 25-75% (Maximal mid expiratory flow
rate- 300L/min)
• -Peak expiratory flow rate- 400-450L/min
• -Minute or Pulmonary Ventilation = TV* RR-
6L/min
• -Maximum Breathing Capacity-90-170L/min

• Breathing reserve = MVV-MV
- Dyspnoeic index = (MVV-MV)*100/MVV,
Normal> 60-70%
- Dyspnoea <60%

Arterial blood gas composition
• Technique: indwelling catheter/ percutaneous
arterial puncture
• samples are drawn anaerobically and placed
on ice
• Minature glass electrodes
