Persephone is the goddess of spring growth and the underworld. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. One day while picking flowers, Hades, her uncle, captured her and took her to be his queen in the underworld. After eating a pomegranate in the underworld, she was bound to stay there for half the year. The agreement was that she would spend half the year with her mother Demeter and the other half with Hades, explaining the seasons. Over time in the underworld, Persephone became protective of Hades and developed a two-sided personality, no longer the sweet girl her mother once knew.
