BUILDING AND
MAINTAINING
RELATIONSHIPS
UNIT THREE:
It refers to close connections between
people, formed by emotional bonds and
interactions. These bonds often grow from and
are strengthened by mutual experiences. This
is practically the kind of relationship that we
have with our families, friends, and partners in
life.
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
1.FAMILY
The Bureau of the Census defines family as
"two or more persons who are related by birth,
marriage, or adoption and who live together as
one household."
THREE(3) KINDS OF
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
2.FRIENDS
A friendship can be thought of as a close tie
between two people that is often built upon
mutual experiences, shared interests, proximity,
and emotional bonding. Friends are able to turn
to each other in times of need.
THREE(3) KINDS OF
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
3.PARTNERSHIPS
Romantic partnerships, including marriage, are
close relationships formed between two people
that are built upon affection, trust, intimacy, and
romantic love. We usually experience this kind
of relationship with only one person at a time.
THREE(3) KINDS OF
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
“Attraction is a force that draws people
together.”
It is a force that unites people and can grow
into an attachment which eventually leads to
commitment.
1. ATTRACTION
What is/are the acceptable and
unacceptable mean/s of
expressing attraction towards
the opposite sex?
QUESTION
1. Mutual Respect 5. Fairness/Equality
2. Trust 6. Separate identities
3. Honesty 7. Support
4. Good Communication
What makes a healthy and
acceptable expression of attractions?
There is no singular definition of love.
- Love is a set of emotions and behaviors
characterized by intimacy, passion, and
commitment. It involves care, closeness,
protectiveness, attraction, affection, and trust.
Love can vary in intensity and can change over
time.
2. FALLING IN LOVE
1. STORGE or AFFECTION
The most central meaning of affection is the love
between offspring and parents. In a broader sense,
affection is love generated through familiarity.
Affection comes naturally to us and exists without
coercion. Affection is humble in that it comes
naturally, and there’s a quietness to the feeling.
TYPES OF LOVE-LEWIS
2. PHILIA or FRIENDSHIP BOND
In modern society, we tend to ignore and
undervalue friendship love, unlike the ancients
who believed friendship love was the happiest of
the loves; we choose friendship love.
TYPES OF LOVE-LEWIS
3. EROS or ROMANTIC LOVE
Eros is passion, lust, sexual attraction, and
everything we think of when we think of the TV
version of love. Unsurprisingly, this type of love
was named after the Greek god of love and
fertility.
TYPES OF LOVE-LEWIS
4. AGAPE or CHARITY or GOD LOVE
Agape is an unconditional love that will always be
present regardless of circumstances. Lewis believes
this is a Christian goal: to have god love rise above
the three other loves. Further, agape is the highest
form of love because of its nature; agape is a matter
of giving and is always good.
TYPES OF LOVE-LEWIS
-An extremely significant turning point, which is
“ any event or occurrence that is associated with
