The document describes an assignment on perception of information. The team decided to do an exercise where one member shared an unlabeled photo and the others provided their perceptions of what was happening in the photo based on visual cues. Their perceptions varied and included ideas like a tense discussion between relatives or entrepreneurs exchanging ideas. After perceptions were shared, the photo sharer revealed it actually showed a personal trainer assessing a client's fitness goals. The exercise demonstrated how perceptions can differ from reality due to limited information.
2. Introduction
As this is a team assignment therefore views were discussed by
team members with each other. Due to good coordination between
the team it was unanimously decided to work on
“Perception of Information”.
3. Briefly Explained
Perception of information depends on various things and in oneself. It can
depend on the context of the situation and the expectations we have
towards something. Also on how things are exposed to us and the
interpretation we give to it. I also think that perception might be influenced
by our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, attitudes and other things.
A good example could be: There are two guys that work together, they do
the exact same thing and they both love doing it. One of them is single and
has no worries at all, the other one is married and about to have a child so
he knows he has a lot of responsibility ahead of him.
One day their boss calls them to his office and tells them that they have to
keep it up and do a better job. The single guy gets out of the office and
thinks ok, i need to work harder, I know I can do it. The married guy who is
about to have a child comes out of the office thinking, I am going to get
fired if i don’t do a better job. So there are two different perceptions about
the exact same situation, and what influences their perception is the
personal life they are going through at that moment. One has a huge
responsibility so he is feeling somehow insecure, the other one does not.
4. Game Plan
Our Team worked on an interesting idea, and it was to share a
picture on the team workspace by one of the team members. Then
the rest of the team members were supposed to share their
opinions after analyzing the picture.
Criteria for picture was that it should be including two or three
persons, (a natural picture from real life). Rest of the team members
were to share their perceptions about the picture like:
• What's the situation?
• What's the relationship between those persons in picture?
• What possibly the persons would be talking about?
• What are their expressions/feelings in general/towards each other?
• Anything that comes to the minds of you guys.
• Then at the end, the team member sharing picture would reveal the
actual situation.
5. Here’s the picture that was shared by team lead, and rest of the team
members shared their perceptions excluding team lead as he already
knew the actual situation and did not share any comments as it could
be misguiding for the rest of team members. After the team members
have shared their perceptions, the picture would be revealed with
Facts and References.
Perception Game
6. And here are the perceptions of
different team members:
Monica Gomez Chico
What I perceive is maybe a tense situation between husband and
wife (probably mother and son) . It looks like he is explaining
something to her that she does not understand or like and he
seems kind of upset. What makes me think they are husband and
wife or mother and son is the clothing. They are wearing exercise
clothing and they seem to be like in an office so they are probably in
a studio at their home. I think they excercised together and this
happened afterwards. I think they are discussing something
important like some insurance or a type of bill and he is trying to
explain it to her.
7. Rodolfo Varela
In my case I can see two entrepreneurs that they are interchanging
ideas about finance or maybe about business plan. Perhaps, they
are working in the house of one of them.
8. Daniela Moscarino
I think that is an informal situation in an informal place, may be in
house or in studio.
She seems a bit worried while he seems more restful, confident. So
I think that he is explaining something to her and she is learning
about. I think also they are pretty close, likely they are married or
very friends.
9. Monica Gomez Chico
Looking at it again. He might be explaining something to her,
something she needs to do or understand, and she seems not
happy about it, but trying to get what he is saying. He is looking at
her while making an emphasis on something important. I still think
they are at a house and that they are related. Its in the morning
before they go out to do exercise. She probably does not want to
hear what he is saying, the hand on her chin can be a sign of it.
10. Rodolfo Varela
Looking at it again I can see a person who teaches another, maybe
she is learning about maths or statistics, in his house. Perhaps, He
is reviewing a task that she did and he is giving a feedback.
11. Syed Ali Abis
Our exercise is very interesting. I also wanted to participate in
sharing perceptions like you guys, but because I shared the picture,
I thought that if I share any perception, then it could be deceptive for
you guys
12. After receiving inputs from team
members
Facts were shared with team after receiving their inputs:
14. Comments:
Monica Gomez Chico
It seems clear now that you say the fact. That makes it very
interesting and makes me think how many times we have had
wrong perceptions of anything and we don’t even know. We can
never assume anything until we know what really is going on...
15. Conclusion
In our daily life, what we see, we must try to learn the facts rather
than just drawing a conclusion by our own thoughts/knowledge. To
some extent our perception could be true but it could not be like
knowing the reality of the situation.
