It's pretty tough to design a great user experience if you don't know the target audience. So when faced with this problem, well-equipped UX designers will turn to one of their favourite tools: the persona.
Personas draw upon the power of narrative and storytelling to shine a bright light on the elusive "user." They're especially effective when based upon primary research methods such as ethnography and in-context interviews. Done poorly, personas are little more
than a futile exercise in creative writing. But done properly, they become powerful representations of your users’ goals, motivations, and behaviours -- and can act as the "north star" for your design decisions.
From my guest lecture at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on September 27, 2013.
This document discusses keeping a positive heart and mindset through remembering that God has chosen you, planned for you, and guaranteed your future. It encourages remembering that God predestined you to be holy and blameless, and works all things according to his plan and will. It also notes that God has planned beforehand for the problems, provision, and people to help you, and that no one can imagine what God has prepared for those who love him and do not give up.
The document summarizes an Experience Monthly Meeting agenda which included:
1) Upcoming sermon series ending in November and resuming in January, with a generic series and Year in Review in late November/early January.
2) Christmas series starting December 5/6 across all campuses with the theme of "Hope Epidemic" and focusing on worshipping, spending less, giving more, and loving all.
3) Big Day 2010 scheduled for January 10/11 to focus on Acts 12-14 and include the 21 day fast called Awaken21.
Shawn Wood, who is married with two children and works at Seacoast Church, presented on properly managing artists. He discussed some ineffective approaches he has used in the past, including trying to treat all artists the same, communicating decisions over email, and not establishing clear expectations. Effective management requires setting guardrails to focus creativity, embracing processes, defining minimum standards, and ensuring accountability through reviews that aim to improve future work. The goal is for managers and artists to understand expectations of each other.

The Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. It was bred in Australia in the late 1980s to be a guide dog for the blind that did not shed hair like Labradors. Labradoodles are friendly, intelligent dogs that come in a variety of sizes depending on whether they take after the Labrador or Poodle parent more.
The meeting agenda included:
1) Deciding to return to a week-behind message timing. They will use an extra ACTS series starting September 12/13.
2) Notes on upcoming series - "Picture Perfect" for 3 weekends in August, and "It Starts with One" for 6-7 weekends starting September 12/13.
3) Planning for Christmas.
The document discusses how products can help build a brand through the experiences they provide to customers. It notes that brands aim to make both rational and emotional promises to customers. While marketing communicates the brand promise, product development must fulfill that promise through thoughtful interaction, information, visual, and copy design choices that promote values like agility, community, and playfulness. The document suggests using techniques like comparing a product to a type of car or human family role to evaluate if it truly fits the target brand experience.

A Fundamental Disruption: Moving Information Architecture Into the Hands of I...Robert Barlow-Busch
Presented at the 2009 IA Summit conference by Peter Sweeney and Robert Barlow-Busch of Primal Fusion.
Technologies are considered disruptive if they challenge fundamental assumptions about how we do things. There is a fundamental assumption in information architecture that producers need to organize content before consumers can access it effectively. This is so fundamental that it permeates virtually every aspect of today’s online experience...
This presentation briefly introduces semantic technologies before exploring how these technologies could challenge the foundations of information architecture...
[Delivered at the Communitech After School event on November 9, 2015] -- User experience (UX) is one of the hottest and fastest-growing career tracks today. It’s an exciting path that puts you at the intersection of technology and people, making it a great choice for anyone whose interests span both “hard” and “soft” disciplines such as engineering and social sciences. With a career in UX, you’ll help to design products and services that people love. It’s a field that welcomes both generalists and specialists across sub-disciplines such as research, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design. In this session, find out what a career in UX can look like and why businesses are hiring like crazy. Get a taste of the profession through real-world stories and hands-on exercises.
Argues that traditional usability testing is too slow and expensive to properly support an iterative approach to design. Presents the "design checkpoint" as a complement: an informal exercise in which 1 designer meets with 1 user for 1 hour every 1 or 2 weeks. From the "7 Minute Soapbox on User Experience" in Waterloo, Ontario on June 14/07.
This document discusses measuring a whale to see if it reaches 30 meters. A teacher named Marta leads students in carefully measuring and marking a whale model or image to see if it is 30 meters long. The students count centimeters, discuss what they find, and record the results of their measurement.
