Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt with a population of over 80 million people, 17 million of whom live in Cairo. Cairo has been the capital of Egypt since the 10th century, replacing Alexandria as the capital. Cairo features many attractions from different eras, including pyramids, mosques, churches, medieval houses, markets and museums dating back to 5000 BC to modern times. The main languages are Arabic and English, with most people speaking the Egyptian Arabic dialect, and the predominant religion is Islam.
