Pendine was packed with people over the weekend as two major events took place in the
village. The fifth annual daffodil ride was taking place alongside motocross on the beach. The
daffodil run gets more entrants each year and has become a very popular entry in the diary of
any self-respecting cyclist. Each year the event raises money for charity and this year all
monies raised will go to the Carmarthenshire Children’s Centre. The 43-mile ride takes the
cyclists through some of the most beautiful countryside in Wales and is a real tourism booster
for the area.

The Motocross is a relatively recent addition to
events in Pendine although motorcycle racing has a
long history on the beach. Riders young and old took
to the track, which had jumps built in along the way.
It was a wonderful frenzy of roaring engines, petrol
and oil fumes and exciting races. There were plenty
of spectators young and old lining the beach wall
following all the action. Pendine has seen resurgence
in visitor numbers as a result of so many events
organised by individuals and clubs within the area.
With so many towns struggling to attract visitors the
staging of events catering for sport and family
entertainment seem to be providing a solution. The
best events seem to be those, which are organised by
small groups and individuals who are passionate
about their town or village and have skills in this
area. They usually operate on a minimal budget too.
