This document discusses key concepts and techniques for analyzing migration patterns. It begins by defining migration as a change in usual residence between geographic units, and defines related terms like migrants, place of origin/destination, migration streams, and types of migration. It then discusses major data sources for migration like censuses and surveys. The document outlines several methods for measuring migration patterns, like using place of birth, duration of residence, and survival ratios. It concludes by discussing determinants and consequences of internal migration and references for further information.

The document discusses the distinction between analytic and continental philosophy. It explores the distinction from both a historical and systematic perspective. Historically, the terms referred more to geography, but analytic philosophy emerged in the early 20th century among philosophers like Frege, Russell, and Wittgenstein who emphasized the analysis of language. Continental philosophy encompassed diverse movements across Europe. The document analyzes how the two approaches differ in their relationship to natural science and history. Ultimately, it concludes the analytic-continental distinction is problematic and not a clear-cut categorization.
Construction of life table TERI University, New DelhiPapiya Mazumdar
This document describes how to construct a life table by calculating various demographic rates and statistics from population and mortality data. It involves calculating: age-specific death rates; total deaths by age group based on death rates and population; life table mortality rates from death rates and age intervals; survival rates from mortality rates; number of survivors by age from survival rates; person-years lived from number of survivors; and life expectancy at each age based on person-years lived. The life table provides information on mortality patterns and expected remaining lifespan by age.
Epidemiology is defined as the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events in populations and the application of this study to control health problems. It uses a systematic and unbiased approach to collect, analyze, and interpret data. Some core functions of epidemiology include public health surveillance, field investigations, analytic studies, evaluation of public health programs and services, linkages with other disciplines, and policy development. Epidemiology provides an evidence base for effective public health action and disease prevention.
This document discusses 5 unknown pediatric radiology cases presented by Donald Tracy, MD at NERRS Pediatric Radiology. Case 1 involves fetal abnormalities seen on obstetrical ultrasound. Case 2 is a 6 year old male with shortness of breath and abdominal pain diagnosed with left lower pneumonia. Case 3 is a 6 month old with bloody stools and low hematocrit. Case 4 is an 11 year old female with reported anterior vaginal prolapse. Case 5 is a 14 year old male with foot pain following a nonpenetrating injury. For each case, relevant imaging studies and histories are provided.
The document provides a summary of Vishal N. Mahajan's professional experience and qualifications. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Strategies for Effective Upskilling is a presentation by Chinwendu Peace in a Your Skill Boost Masterclass organisation by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan on 08th and 09th June 2024 from 1 PM to 3 PM on each day.
