This document provides statistics on sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification through PEFC as of March 2013. It finds that over 244 million hectares of forest area across 31 countries are PEFC certified. Europe has the largest certified forest area at 77 million hectares while Canada alone accounts for over 113 million hectares. There are over 9,700 chain of custody certificates issued across 53 countries, with the highest numbers in France, Germany, the UK, Italy and Spain.
PEFC defines 205 sustainability benchmarks that all PEFC standards must meet related to standard setting processes, national schemes, and management practices. Public procurement policies in several countries, including Belgium, Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Finland, recognize and recommend PEFC. Other green building standards and policies also accept PEFC. A 2010 assessment by WWF found that while FSC and PEFC were equivalent in meeting most criteria for sustainable forest management, PEFC fully met requirements for effective monitoring and assessment that FSC only partially met.
PEFC Standards Revision: Requirements for SFM StandardsPEFC International
The document summarizes a stakeholder seminar on the revision of PEFC requirements for sustainable forest management standards. It discusses the objectives of revising the standards to incorporate latest knowledge, respond to new challenges and expectations, and streamline requirements. The revision process includes a working group developing draft documents, a public consultation period for feedback, and formal approval of final documents. Key areas addressed in the revised standards include definitions of forest conversion, use of native and introduced species, chemical usage, conservation of ecologically important areas, indigenous peoples' rights, and compliance with legislation.

The document summarizes attendance data from past FOSS4G conferences between 2006 and 2011. It shows line graphs depicting rising attendance numbers, with 902 attendees in Denver 2011 being the highest. Pie charts show the geographical distribution of attendees, with North America making up 76% and Europe 18%. The US alone accounted for 612 attendees. The document discusses the collaborative and educational nature of the conferences in bringing together the 'meeting of the tribes' in open source geospatial technologies. It provides information on the local organizing committee and sponsors for FOSS4G 2011 in Denver.
The US is the top exporter of pork in the world. In 2012, US pork exports reached a new record of 6.3 billion dollars, up 3.5% from 2011. However, exports in the first four months of 2013 were down 10% from the same period in 2012. The largest export markets for US pork are Mexico, Japan, Canada, and China/Hong Kong, but exports to many countries declined in early 2013 compared to the previous year. Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations aim to further open markets and remove trade barriers. Animal welfare standards in the EU and potential changes in Canada could significantly impact the global pork trade and production costs. This document summarizes data on patronage networks for digital creators. It finds that over 60% of creators did not provide location data, with the top locations being the USA, UK, and Canada. Most patrons also did not provide location. For countries with over 10 patrons, patronage networks are highly international, with patrons usually backing creators from the USA. The top creative fields for patronage are writing, comics, video/film, drawing/painting, and podcasts. The document raises questions about power dynamics between patrons and creators and the impact of patronage networks on traditional arts funding.

Editor's Notes
Growth of PEFC-certified area since its establishment in 1999. The first countries with endorsed national forest certification systems and PEFC certified area were Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany and Austria in 2000. The growth of certified area from 2004-2005 was due to SFI achieving PEFC-endorsement. While PEFC is the largest forest certification system globally, SFI was – and still is – the world’s largest forest certification system nationally.
Growth of PEFC Chain of Custody certificates since 2001. As PEFC allows for group certification to provide access to Chain of Custody certification to small and medium sized enterprises, the actual number of companies covered by PEFC Chain of Custody certification exceeds 10.000.
