Some describe it as making things enjoyable and easy to use. Others describe it as all of the elements that impact one’s perception of a product or system. From information architecture, to user research, to user testing, this presentation is about what UX is and why it should be an integral part of every website or application project.
The dreaded résumé. How can one love something meant to condense and cram a person’s life and career into a handful of pages? We as job hunters hate them because they never seem to sufficiently convey what we do or how we do it, and it’s usually the first impression any potential employer gets of us. Employers have a love/hate relationship with them because they do, at first, provide an apparently good abstraction of a potential hire, but it’s a thin veneer that quickly rubs away when they come face to face with an individual that barely seems to match up with that first impression.
A couple of years ago I experimented with treating my résumé as a UX project, applying user-centric principles and methodologies on myself in the hopes of landing a better job. In this session I'll go over the process that led me to my design, discuss 'user' reaction to the design, and outline some ideas that can help everybody build a better résumé, UX or otherwise.
This document provides tips for creating engaging presentations without being boring. It recommends avoiding animation, clipart, bullet points, templates, and overly designed PowerPoint slides. Instead, it suggests keeping presentations simple, using imagery, planning thoroughly, and focusing on the presenter rather than the slides. The goal is to hold the audience's attention through an authentic connection with the presenter rather than reliance on visual aids.
The document provides tips for creating effective presentations. It recommends keeping presentations simple, driving the presentation forward, balancing size and color of elements, following the rule of thirds for slide layouts, and provides example images related to presenting, including a presenter, avoiding death by PowerPoint, a zen garden, bullet points, a bridge, font styles, a bookshelf, and using diagonal lines.
D&Ad Pecha Kucha Japan Chris ArningChris Arning
Pictures from my recent trip to Japan March 2012-April 2012, presented at D&AD Pecha Kucha - a charity benefit for Ashinaga Foundation helping victims of the March 2011 tsunami.
Pecha Kucha presentations burst onto the scene in 2003 and have since been adopted and adapted by a wide audience, from the creative industries to the business world and of course, education. Having observed the use of Pecha Kucha in a number of different educational contexts, this practical session examines why the format continues to have relevance for us, and what role it can play in different learning and teaching environments.
This presentation shares a basic Pecha Kucha 'toolkit', structures to explore with your students and teachers, and some ideas you can try tomorrow in your class spaces and staff development.
The document discusses the future of big data in the travel industry. Big data refers to extremely large data sets that are too large to be processed with traditional data processing applications. Big data is growing exponentially and will reach unprecedented levels, processing thousands of petabytes per second within the next few years. It will enable new capabilities like predicting flight delays and recommending travel options based on personal preferences.
The document is a collection of image captions and credits from various photographers and artists including Albertosepe, Helena Grigar, Tony Linck, Emilia Karbownik, Caroline Paré, deerstop, and David W. Carmichael. It also includes some numbers and text about software foundations.
The document discusses unconventional ideas for selling real estate on Earth, including increasing the tilt of the Earth's axis to create extreme seasonal changes that could drive current inhabitants to extinction, flooding the planet to destroy any damage, and hiring lawyers to confiscate NASA equipment to take nice pictures of the property for marketing. The seller seems eager to use dramatic means to vacate the property and clear it for new ownership.
The Internet Of Things Pecha Kucha SlidesAdrian McEwen
The document discusses the Internet of Things (IoT), which refers to the network of physical objects embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity that allows these objects to collect and exchange data. The document provides several examples of IoT applications such as parcel tracking systems, digital photo frames, smart payment cards, fitness trackers, and systems that provide real-time transit updates. It also describes how the Arduino board offers an accessible way for people to build basic IoT prototypes cheaply and discusses the author's personal experiences experimenting with IoT development.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
