The New Drawing On The Right Side Of The Braingueste5941e9d
This document provides context for the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. It discusses how Edwards came to write the book based on her experiences as an art teacher puzzling over why students struggled with drawing what was directly in front of them. Her discovery of Roger Sperry's research on brain hemisphere functions provided insight into how drawing may engage a nonverbal, holistic mode of thinking differently than usual. She revised the book over decades to incorporate what she continued learning about applying brain research to teaching drawing skills.
This document provides guidance for a lesson on the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It includes discussion questions and activities about themes, characters, and passages from the novel. The opening activity asks students to choose the book cover that best fits the novel and discuss their choices in groups. Students will then participate in a debate about the issue of cloning as depicted in the film adaptation. Subsequent sections provide discussion prompts and analysis questions about narrative structure, the use of irony in the novel, the meaning and implications of the novel's setting at Hailsham, and key passages from the early chapters. The document aims to establish an understanding of the narrator Kathy and explore narrative devices used in the novel.
The document discusses how after the Civil War, southern states passed "pig laws" and vagrancy laws to criminalize and re-enslave freed African Americans, who were then leased out by the states as forced laborers to work plantations, mines, and other businesses. While some argue these laws were ineffective, others assert they were intentionally discriminatory and allowed southern whites to maintain economic dominance over African Americans and profit from their labor. The convict leasing system exploited African Americans and ensured they remained subservient in the post-Civil War south.

2. Things I am known for:
Running, horse riding, playing instruments,
reading, cooking, listening to music, writing, etc. I’m usually
known for my love of horses, whenever I get to do art
projects I always like to draw horses.
3. Next year, I plan to be known for:
Next year I want to be on a track and field and swim
team. I really love running, but I’ve never gotten to be on a
team so I’m really excited!
4. Some things I've learned in the last year.
This year I have learned how to drive in the mountains
and how to play clarinet. Driving around here really
scared me at first since people go rather fast and if you
make a bad turn you fall off the mountain, but now after
some practice I feel way more relaxed.
5. Three English Projects
Examples:
1. “Several factors made Radio City Music Hall special and unique. It had the largest indoor theatre in the entire world.
Its auditorium measures 160 feet and the ceiling reaches 84 feet in height! The stage is considered to be the most perfectly equipped in the world.” (Part of my research
report on Radio City Music Hall).
2. “Minarets High School is technological. “ (Minarets Mountain Fair Letter).
3. "If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like . . . and all that David Copperfield
kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth." Page 1. -I think this quote is important because it gives an idea of what the narrator is not going to
discuss for the rest of the book and what his attitude is like. (Literary Element from my Novel Wikispace Project).
6. My curnt onal oject is chaenging and
exciting to me in the foowing ways...
Now I’m trying to become a better/more efficient clarinet
and guitar player. This project is challenging since it
requires that I dedicate some time to practicing the
instruments, however I really enjoy playing them which
keeps practice exciting.
7. Math project
Example: This is a slide
from a “Geometrical
Shapes” project. Circles
• Tape:
• Diameter: 2 inches
• Circumference: 6.28318531 inches
• Area: 3.14159265 inches2
8. What I do to make friends, be visible and
"be known":
Sports I like are horse riding, track and field, swimming,
bicycling, and badminton. I usually make friends when I do some
of the aforementioned activities. I’m usually pretty bad at making
friends which is why I find it easier to make friends with people
who have similar interests as me.
9. Ag Science or FFA project
Example: (Part of my molarity tutorial).
• What is Molarity?
• Molarity is the measure of the strength of a solution. The unit for molarity is
“M.”
• A strong solution has a higher molarity than a weak solution.
• The formula to find molarity is the number of moles of a solution over the
liters of solution.
• To determine the number of moles use Avogadro’s number (6.02 x 1023).
• An example of finding molarity is: Determine the molarity of a solution
made by dissolving 20 g of NaOH in water to produce a 482 cm3
solution. First, calculate the number of moles of NaOH that are in 20
g. (N= 23, H = 1, 0 = 16). Second, place these values into the
problem (1 mole of NaOH weighs 23 g + 16 g + 1 g = 40 g). Third,
find the number of moles in 20 g (moles NaOH = 20.0 g × 1 mole/
40.0 g = 0.500 mole). Fourth, determine the volume of the solution in
liters (liters solution = 482 cm3 × 1 liter/1000 cm3 = 0.482 liter).
Fifth, determine the molarity (molarity = 0.500 mol/ 0.482 liter,
molarity = 1.04 mol/liter = 1.04 M).
• An example of finding the number of moles is: How many moles are in
75 g of He? Take the number of grams and divide it by He’s atomic
number. 75 divided by 4 = 18.75 moles.
10. Important new people I have met
in the last few weeks that will help
me in the future:
A new person I have met recently that has influenced my life
is Rona Adler. She is a great horse rider who lets me go
riding with her on the weekend. If not for her I would not be
able to ride at all. The way she helps me in the future is by giving
me something to look forward to each week.
11. Three History or Geography
projects
Examples:
• 1. Russia’s Involvement in World War I (From Russia in World War I project)
• Russia entered the war on the side of the Allies.
• Some major battles Russia was involved in were the Battle of Tannenberg and the First Battle of Masurian Lakes.
• In total Russia suffered 3,311,000 deaths.
• 2. Cold War Vocabulary Project
• The Cuban Missile Crisis was a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States in 1962 that was centered on the existence of missile locations in
Cuba.
• The soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev had put Soviet missiles in Cuba. President John F. Kennedy of the United States demanded that the missiles be
removed, which they were.
• 3. Joseph Stalin was born in Gori, Georgia on 21 December, 1879. (From Russia in World War II project).
12. Relationships (friends, family) that I have improved over the last few weeks:
I have recently moved back to the United States, therefore I
have re-met almost my entire family (I hadn’t seen them in
seven years), thus improving my relationship with my relatives.
13. A skill I'm going to work on in the next 90 days to make me more successful:
I want to work on becoming a better swimmer so my dad
can teach me how to windsurf and
bodysurf.
14. Three Elective projects
Examples:
My electives are mostly musical (guitar, choir, band, and P.E.),
therefore I haven’t done any written projects. In band, choir, and
guitar class I have learned to play a lot of new songs and a new
instrument (clarinet). I’ve learned a bunch of new songs in
band, guitar, and choir that have been really fun and challenging.
15. My skills are different since I have learned how to
play the clarinet when I didn’t know how to play
before.
16. My Top Project of the Year
My favorite school project of the year is the English final project.
Details:
1. I choose to do my project on music lyrics.
2. I picked five of my favorite songs from different bands.
3. Next I analyzed what the lyrics meant to me.
4. I also got pictures related to each song.
5. In this project I also investigated what the rhyme of each song was and how many beats each verse had.
6. While doing this project I learned what a stanza is.
Rhyme: The majority of the lines rhyme, with a few exceptions in the verses. The
amount of beats per line follows a general pattern. For the verses the pattern is four,
ten, four, and ten beats. In the chorus the pattern is mainly four beats in every line.
There are three stanzas and four choruses. (Analysis of “Razor”)
17. what do others think about my work?
Teacher Quotes:
1. “You are the most responsible person I know.” -Mr. Samuelson
2. “You are always engaged, on task, and involved with what is going on in the class.” -Mr. Ching
3. “Alyssa is great! She came to Minarets this year with more worldly experience than I can ever hope to
have! She has a quite confidence, and a ton of ability! I can always count on Alyssa to be the first to finish a
project or assignment, and have it be really high quality! I am looking forward to working with Alyssa in the
future, and getting to know her better! SHE ROCKS!” -Mr. Large
20. Final Personal Comment
Throughout this year I have gone through so many changes that have completely changed my life (moving here
from Paraguay). My final personal comment is that I have learned so many new things this year and seen such a
giant variety of new things. I’ve learned a bunch of ridiculous things that most people wouldn’t think twice about
like pumping gas yourself, taking your shopping cart all the way to your car, not talking to everyone in spanish,
(where I used to live nobody pumped their own gas) and a million other little things. I’ve also seen the ocean,
mountains, and a million new things.
