within databases. Masking is performed only for sensitive data elements.
Here, the real data is replaced with realistic but fictitious data. The
ultimate aim of this exercise is to protect sensitive and personally
identifiable data outside the authorized environment. Data masking is
implemented for non-production environments like test and development
so that sensitive information remains intact within the production
environments itself.
