This document discusses the past perfect continuous and past perfect simple tenses. The past perfect continuous is used to describe an action that began in the past and continued up to another point in the past. Examples are provided such as "He had been writing the story for 30 minutes by the time his brother arrived." The past perfect simple is used to describe one past event that occurred before another past event. Formulas and examples are given for both tenses.

• Past Perfect Continuous
• Usages: We use past perfect continuous (progressive) tense to show
that an action began in the past and continued up to another point in
the past.
Ex: He had been writing the story for 30 minutes by the time his
brother arrived.
Dara had been waiting the bus for 30 minutes by the time it
arrived.

• Positive: S+ had been + V ing + Obj
• Negative: S + had + not + been + V ing + Obj.
• Yes/No?: Had + S + been + V ing + Obj+ ?
• Wh?: Wh + had + S + been + V ing + Obj+ ?

5. Past Perfect
• Usages: We use past perfect to talk about a past event before another
past event. It shows the time connection between two actions.
Ex: 1. When I arrived home my mother had cooked the chicken.
2. The film had started before we arrived there.

6. Formula of Past Perfect
• Positive: S + had + V3 + Obj
• Negative: S + had + not + V3 + Obj
• Yes/ No? Had + S + V3 + Obj + ?
• WH? Wh + had + S + V3 + Obj + ?
