This document compares and contrasts parliamentary and presidential systems of government. In parliamentary systems, the prime minister and ministers are selected from the majority party in parliament and can be removed by a parliamentary vote of no confidence. In presidential systems, the president is directly elected by voters and appoints ministers independently of the legislature. Examples provided are the UK and US systems as well as semi-presidential systems like Germany and hybrid systems like France.
