4. After studying fashion design and garment
construction in Italy and Argentina she
decided to start her own company back
home in Ethiopia where she would come to
merge traditional Ethiopian cloth and
fabrics with modern techniques and trends.
Genet is a pioneer in Ethiopian fashion. She
created her own label- Paradise Fashion- in
1992. Genet’s love of fashion started at school
in her sewing class. But it was her wedding that
really kick started her fashion career. Paradise
Fashion took its name from the English
translation of the owner’s name, Genet.

• Exporting is very complex
• Huge market capacity inside Africa
• My luck started with a collection of 50 dresses. That day big orders started coming in.
Six months we grew out of our space.
• Rare to have payment in advance
• Turning over big money but still have problems
• Amazing team to work with me.
• Biggest blessing is family
• People need to be educated
• No one wants to work for these big companies
• The dream of the city is getting worse. Must work from the grass roots to keep people
outside the city working.
