FTF On Tour | FinTech meets Telecom
Mobile and Telecom-driven financial services for the “unbanked” are fast becoming the norm in emerging markets, but have yet to reach scale in Europe.
However, we see several factors coming together that could change the game:
- the rise of young and mobile millennials as well as a tech-savvy older generation in Western Europe
- a young, “underbanked” Central & Eastern Europe
a slew of recent deals (see chart) and
- the EU Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) legislation coming into effect by January 2018.
An invitation-only initiative run in collaboration with respective sector experts, FTF On Tour | FinTech meets Telecom, is the first to bring together FinTech startups with investors, telecoms and financial institutions looking to tap into these emerging opportunities in Europe.
Fifteen startups with the most compelling propositions in this space will be selected to present to an invitation-only audience of leading investors, telecoms and financial institutions on 23rd Mar. 2016 at the Airport Club, Frankfurt Airport.
Panel discussions with those at the forefront of this space will highlight the potential opportunities, challenges, the learnings so far and what to expect in the next 6-18 months.
In 2022, Shopify reported $5.9 billion in revenues, as millions of merchants used their platform to sell products and services, and generated tons of business. $80 billion worth Shopify has revolutionized ecommerce across the globe, starting right from Canada, where it was born.
And Shopify is just one example. There is Lightspeed, Klarna, Improbable, and more startups, that have created ripples across the tech and business world.
Introducing the nine Creative Industries R&D partnerships as part of the Creative Industries Clusters Programme. Spread across the four nations of the UK, the partnerships are of exceptional quality in terms of research capability, growth plans and the industrial partners who drive them.
Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, as part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy, the final nine creative clusters have been announced following a year-long selection process. A new Policy and Evidence Centre and a National Centre for Immersive Storytelling will also be developed alongside the clusters.

News and Newspaper Industry: Towards a New Leadership in Innovation. Manifesto for an International Alliance for Media Research and Innovation.
Looking ahead, the newspapers and news publishers global community should become more open and integrate more players into research, development and innovation: public and private research centres and labs, start-ups and innovative technology providers, VC, business angles, and research funding partners in order to create an overall ecosystem of innovation to serve the fast moving media value chain. This ecosystem of innovation will develop around four pillars: 1) a shared strategic vision presented in this manifesto, 2) Training and coaching, 3) the co-production of innovative services and technologies in partnership with the world of research, 4) Technology transfer with specific interface between startups, tech providers and publishers.

Fostering the startup Ecosystem in Latin AmericaTechstars
There are more common threads uniting us than creating barriers. And when we talk about the conditions necessary to the development of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, it is a fact there are common ingredients. These common ingredients are positioning Latin America to a once in a lifetime opportunity to build wealth and opportunities through entrepreneurship.
5th issue of the Online Comments Report, developed by Corporate Excellence and LLORENTE & CUENCA. The Report analyses comments made voluntarily on the Internet as well as their impact on the dimensions that constitute corporate reputation: Products and Services, Innovation, Finance, Workplace, Citizenry and Leadership.
The Report contains a map of stakeholders that actively use the Internet and the networks that should be taken into account at the time of developing a strategy of positioning on the Internet: the real–time network Twitter, the social network Facebook, the multimedia network YouTube, and the hyper-textual network Google. It also identifies relevant content for different audiences and helps map key reputational risk areas for companies.
In particular, this issue has evaluated the digital fingerprint of 71 brands of 15 sectors from a total of 88,950 URLs and 28,000 mentions.
The report assesses the 100 first findings that analysed brands positioned in four key environments on the Internet: Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, and offers specific findings by sectors dimensions, stakeholders and networks. Thus, the analysis allows identifying those sectors, topics, stakeholders and networks that are most and least favourable in terms of recognition (how it is evaluated) and recognition (how much it is evaluated). It also offers strategic insights to design positioning strategies online.
BEO 2016 has been already applied to more than 70 companies around the world and aims to become an international standard to manage the reputation of organisations online.
Our challenge, and our mission, is to “Globalize Silicon Valley” and empower talented and motivated people to build impactful companies that create one million jobs.
While seemingly insurmountable (borderline "crazy"?), we achieved a lot of milestones towards this mission in 2016, especially in Latin America.
Technology companies all across the LATAM region are growing at an incredible rate, internet and mobile adoption has skyrocketed, and both local and foreign investors are taking notice. We have taken notice, too.
