This document discusses the threat of an influenza pandemic and provides advice on how to prepare families and businesses. It notes experts warn the world is ill-prepared for a pandemic and mortality from influenza has increased 114% since 1918. The document recommends individuals prepare 2 weeks of food, water, and medication and learn proper hygiene practices. Businesses should create pandemic plans and allow for work from home options. Additional resources on pandemic preparedness are provided.
The document discusses the Vatican's views on reproductive technologies and procedures such as artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and surrogate motherhood. It outlines the Church's concerns about how new life comes into the world and ensuring the well-being of that new life. The Vatican's views are informed by previous declarations from Humanae Vitae and about abortion. The document also presents opposing views that argue these technologies allow people to gift life and take advantage of medical advances.
ASSESSMENT OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS BASED ON VITAL STATISTICSjas maan
This presentation discusses how vital statistics can be used to assess nutritional status. Vital statistics are defined as data on births, deaths, illnesses and rates calculated from this data. Mortality rates like infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate are indirect indicators of community nutritional status. Morbidity rates like incidence and prevalence rates can also provide information. Data is typically collected from vital registration systems, censuses, surveys and hospital records. Advantages are that vital statistics require few resources while disadvantages include potential inaccuracies in data collection and reporting of causes of death.
The document discusses subtle attacks against the family, including topics like demography, new age values, mis-education, pornography, and the truth about human sexuality. It provides information arguing that concerns about overpopulation are unfounded and that falling birth rates actually pose problems. It also critiques approaches to sex education and family planning that fail to uphold moral and religious values.
Measles Hysteria, 2015 - Part 2 by Mark Blaxillstellablue
The document summarizes and analyzes the 2015 measles outbreak linked to Disneyland in California. It makes three key points:
1) The outbreak originated from a single unidentified individual infected with measles who visited Disneyland in December 2014. It led to over 100 cases, mostly in California, but had largely ended spreading by mid-February 2015.
2) Media coverage of the outbreak peaked in early February even as new cases dropped to near zero. This hysteria coincided with efforts in several states to introduce bills restricting non-medical vaccine exemptions.
3) While concerning, the Disneyland outbreak was relatively small and not as serious as portrayed. Measles generally poses little risk in the US
The document discusses the Vatican's views on reproductive technologies and procedures such as artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and surrogate motherhood. It expresses concerns about how new life comes into the world and the well-being of that new life. The Vatican believes reproductive technologies can separate the goods and meanings of marriage by divorcing procreation from unity, as with artificial contraception. The document references previous declarations on related issues.

Around 21,000 children die every day worldwide mostly from preventable causes like pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria. Rural areas have higher child mortality than urban areas. Common causes of infant death include preterm birth complications, low birth weight, and sepsis. For children, the leading causes are infectious diseases, pneumonia, and diarrhea. Reducing child mortality requires increased access to immunizations, treatment, nutrition, clean water, and an educated population. Major organizations working to address this issue include UNICEF, WHO, World Vision, and the World Bank.
2017 Statewide Case Competition: Team 10 - Second Place (UA)Andrea Thomas
This document proposes a community-based solution to reduce stunting and malnutrition in Amhara children in Ethiopia over 5 years. It identifies key issues like maternal malnutrition, infant undernutrition, and lack of clean water. The solution has three main attack points: 1) building maternal homes to address maternal malnutrition, 2) developing an infant staple food to combat undernutrition from 6-24 months, and 3) installing WarkaWater devices for a sustainable source of clean water. The budget outlines costs of $2 million over 5 years to implement maternal homes, supplements, transportation, healthcare workers, and Warkawater devices. The expectation is this comprehensive approach will decrease disease and malnutrition while increasing health awareness.
This document outlines the agenda and topics to be discussed during a pandemic influenza tabletop exercise for Benton County, Minnesota. It includes background information on seasonal flu, avian/bird flu, and pandemic flu. The exercise will simulate the spread of a pandemic influenza outbreak starting in Asia and eventually reaching Minnesota. Participants will discuss the implications at each stage and response efforts within their departments.
This document discusses how access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is essential for reducing newborn deaths from infection. Nearly half of all newborn deaths are caused by infection, which is linked to poor environmental conditions during birth. Implementing clean birth practices like handwashing can significantly reduce mortality. The World Health Organization recommends "six cleans" during delivery and postnatal care to protect newborns, all of which rely on water, sanitation, and hygiene. However, many healthcare facilities and home births lack adequate WASH conditions. The document calls for integrating WASH into newborn health policies and strategies to help achieve goals of reducing newborn mortality.
The number of people stalked by hunger in the United States has soared since the Great Recession. Every year since the turn of the millennium, at least 20 million Americans (one in 6) have been worried about running out of food. Hunger is a tragedy with high costs for families and our national economy. It’s time to admit to the new normal of hunger in America and get serious about changing it.
The document discusses teen pregnancy as a social problem. It notes that pregnant teens are less likely to receive prenatal care according to research from the Alan Guttmacher Institute. It then lists some of the impacts on teens such as stress, exhaustion, depression, and the difficulties of balancing taking care of a baby with other responsibilities as a teen. The document provides several citations and references to support the discussion on teen pregnancy.

1) The document describes the author's experience studying food and culture in Peru and Kentucky. In Peru, she observed seed exchanges between schools as part of a winter solstice celebration and women selling foods like potatoes and herbs in local markets. She also helped farmers with planting.
2) The author notes the difference between Andean and Western perspectives on food and the relationship between people, gods, and nature. Andeans see food as sustenance and being in reciprocal relationships, while Westerners often view food as a commodity and people as having authority over nature.
3) After returning to Kentucky, the author interned with an organization supporting local sustainable food systems and small farms. She created a directory of these

This document discusses blogs and wikis and their use in 21st century classrooms. It begins with an introduction to blogs and wikis, explaining that blogs allow for ownership, audience, and organization of information while wikis enable ownership and collaboration. Examples are then provided of how blogs and wikis have been used for classroom websites, journals, book clubs, and paperless assignments. The document concludes by providing examples of wikis created by classes and encouraging the creation of a new wiki to facilitate 21st century learning.
- The document is a speech by the Secretary of Health and Human Services outlining preparations for an influenza pandemic.
- It discusses the history of past pandemics like the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed 50 million people worldwide.
- The emergence of H5N1 avian flu in 2005 prompted increased preparations, including developing domestic vaccine production capacity, stockpiling antiviral drugs and personal protective equipment, and improving state and local pandemic plans.
- The goal is to have enough pandemic vaccine available for every American within 6 months of a pandemic outbreak.
The document discusses pulling yourself up by your bootstraps in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. It summarizes that the saying means improving your situation through hard work rather than assistance. It then discusses how African Americans were disproportionately impacted by the 1918 flu pandemic due to issues with healthcare access and discrimination. The document outlines steps communities took in response, and how similar issues have led to health disparities during COVID-19. It promotes preventative measures like vaccination, masks, and distancing to overcome challenges in a self-reliant way.
The document discusses the history and effectiveness of measles vaccination programs in the United States and other countries. It notes that measles outbreaks were reported even in fully vaccinated populations in the early 1980s. Some studies found that measles vaccines were not provoking a proper immune response or providing long-lasting immunity. A CDC whistleblower later revealed that a 2004 study had found that the MMR vaccine was linked to a 340% increased risk of autism in African American boys under 3 years old, but this data was covered up by the CDC.

Leading science experts and non religious reason on rh bill - feb 2012Tina Santiago-Rodriguez
This document discusses key questions regarding reproductive health bills from both medical and socio-moral perspectives. It summarizes perspectives from leading science experts and world authorities on whether contraception and IUDs kill human beings (they agree that human life begins at fertilization), whether contraception is safe and effective (evidence shows health risks like cancer and no evidence it reduces HIV/AIDS), and the socio-moral effects of widespread contraception availability (evidence suggests it leads to more premarital sex, single parenthood and abortion). The document advocates resolving these crucial issues by consulting the greatest unbiased experts to determine the truth.

This document discusses the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, which was an unethical clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 by the U.S. Public Health Service to study the natural progression of untreated syphilis in rural African American men in Alabama. The study withheld treatment from the 399 men even after penicillin became available as the effective treatment for syphilis in 1946. The study was exposed and ended in 1972, and the U.S. government formally apologized in 1997.
This document summarizes Dr. Leslie Ramsammy's concerns about candidates in the 2016 US presidential election linking vaccines to autism and proposing to limit vaccine use without scientific evidence. As a former health minister, Dr. Ramsammy insists that vaccines have significantly reduced child mortality worldwide and calls out Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Rand Paul for their irresponsible anti-vaccine positions. He is disappointed that prominent health organizations have not more forcefully dismissed these claims and urges taking a public stance to correct misleading statements that endanger children's lives.
This document discusses being pro-life from a biblical perspective. It summarizes three key passages from the Gospel of Mark that portray Jesus' compassion for the vulnerable: 1) Jesus heals a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath, highlighting his concern for preserving life over legalism. 2) Jesus heals a woman with long-term bleeding, showing his power to restore life. 3) Jesus blesses children, expressing that the kingdom of God belongs to the innocent. The document urges Christians to expand their pro-life principles in line with Jesus' example of caring for the suffering.
This document summarizes 25 facts about the hidden history of medicine. Fact #3 discusses how the FDA suppressed a natural cure for cancer discovered by Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski for over 30 years. Burzynski found that a combination of phenylacetate and phenylacetyl-glutamine could cure cancer, including terminal cancers. However, the FDA, medical boards, and pharmaceutical industry persecuted Burzynski and seized over 12,000 of his patient records. They suppressed his cure to protect the lucrative cancer industry. Burzynski eventually won court cases showing his treatment worked, but the FDA continued harassing him for years in a campaign to shut down his natural cure.
During the Civil War, disease and infection killed more soldiers than combat injuries. Medical treatment and sanitation were inadequate. Doctors did not understand germ theory and often made injuries worse with ineffective herbal treatments. Overcrowded, unsanitary field hospitals spread disease. Voluntary organizations helped care for the sick and wounded and distribute supplies.

“My fellow Americans, Once again, nature has presented us with a daunting challenge: the possibility of an influenza pandemic”George W. Bush, The White House, November 1, 2005http://www.whitehouse.gov/homeland/pandemic-influenza.htmlOn November 1, 2005 President G. W. Bush provides the nation with a National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza as a result of the current strains impacting Asia and its migratory potential of reaching the North American continent. While the document may outline the roles to be imposed by the federal government, it also outlines the roles to be taken by the State and local governments, private industries, and international partners, and “most importantly individual citizens” to protect your family and yourself. The US government acknowledges that annually, 36,000 deaths and over 200,000 are hospitalized as a result of some type of influenza, as well as costing over $10 billion to the US.Any type of pandemic will “dwarf” these figures and place a grave impact on our medical infrastructure, with billions of dollars being applied both “directly and indirectly” if an event of this magnitude occurs.
The Center for Disease Control has implied data that states the H5N1 genetic structure will change. They completed an analysis in 2005 with an outbreak in Turkey in October which was limited to poultry. In November 2005 in a separate region of Turkey another outbreak occurred which involved poultry and humans. They conducted genetic molecular evolution of the virus in contrast to the October virus and noted changes in the amino acids and concluded that a mutation is occurring. In the WHO Avian Flu FAQ, they state “Despite an advance warning that has lasted almost two years, the world is ill-prepared to defend itself during a pandemic”World Health Organization, 2008They have urged developed countries to begin preparation, but only 40 countries have done so, and only 30 countries have begun to stock pile vaccines. However, manufactures have no further orders to fill. It is also the opinion that hundreds of developing countries will not have access to vaccines, thus increasing the concern of spreading the virus. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations states that a “health crisis” have occurred within the animal kingdom from developing countries in the past 10 years that have resulted in the transmission to humans. A total of 60 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. While most outbreaks have occurred in domestic poultry, they proposed a system in which to improve the health conditions of animals – as a “prevention of source” in these countries.HHS issued a statement in their Oct 2, 2007 release by Kevin Yeskey MD, Deputy Asst, Secretary Director, Human Health Services, that preparation is a shared responsibility and that preparedness is challenged across all spectrums.OPPONENTSNon Governmental Agencies are limited, but out their stating an oppositional view of the potential bird flu scenario. Some believe this to be a “designed hysteria” to get people immunized with drugs provided by Roche, a pharmaceutical company contracted by the US government. Some also believe that if those refusing to be inoculated, there could be incarceration in “concentration camps” under a law drafted called the “Others believe this to be conspiracy like rumors of AIDS and other weaponized viruses as they are called to test unproven vaccines, based on the level of monopoly by the pharmaceutical companies.http://www.evehillary.org There is also Astrology information about the epidemics that have occurred since the beginning of time, and that with various alignment with the plants for example: Jupiter or Saturn-Neptune configuration that is cause of alarm that a pandemic is surely possible.
Further President Bush emphasize that while the government will do what is available given the resources and circumstances, we must take the necessary preparations ourselves.
In 1918 in a 37 day window, the mortality time cycle was ticking with the Spanish flu showing no boundaries from the East to West coast. Given the rate of transmission and disbursement, and our higher and denser population, if an outbreak of a similar magnitude was to occur, we could see an estimated 5 million deaths worldwide within a similar period of time without preparation.research conducted in 2006 used historical data from previous outbreaks and estimate a 114% increase in death due to an avian flu outbreak. Therefore, will history may repeat its self but in a vengeances. Within the first 72 hours of an outbreak, many of the services we rely on can have complete to limited disruption. Even the governmental agency state that you should plan to be without some elements of normal resources for the first three days. Such as: Emergency services, Public services, like banking, ATMS, Schools, post offices, and so forth. Food and water will become a item many will be fighting for, just look at the recent events this past Friday during “black Friday” In California shootings at a Toys R’ Us occurred. In New York a person was trampled to death during a rush to get in side to by the discounted items. Everyone will be fighting for survival. If you rely on public transportation, this may not even be available.Hospitals will be overcrowd or lacking staff due to vaccine unavailability. The level of service will be based on level of criticalness. Also, with that many sick, it will become a breeding ground for those who are well enough to provide services. Plus we must remember the vaccines first issued are not a true vaccine against the virus, but only a treatment for the symptoms, not the flu itself. This will take months to get into distribution. There are many attributes that will come with Social Panic.Emotional – shocked, anger, helplessness, despairCognitive – confusion, blaming others, poor concentrationBehavioral – isolation, changes in habits, eating or sleepingSpiritual – anger at God, or getting closer to God
Survivors Lament – in 1918 there were numerous deaths, as well as survivor stories. We can learn from our history and apply those lessons to our survival. Preparation does not take on a major issue. We prepare for tornados and earthquakes. We never know when one is going to occur, but we prepare. Why can we not do the same with a potential pandemic outbreak. If you currently have a first aid kit or supply, modify it to include the items listed before hand. Please take one of the flyer here to provide you a guide or visit the following sites.
