South Nodaway defeated Northeast Nodaway 2-0 in a pitching duel between Garrett LaMaster of South Nodaway and Andrew Faustlin of Northeast Nodaway. Both pitchers had over 10 strikeouts, with LaMaster allowing just one hit and the lone run scoring on his RBI. While Northeast Nodaway lost, their performance proved the next game could be competitive.

Northeast Nodaway edged out by South Nodaway in pitching battle
Two of Nodaway County’s best pitchers, Garrett LaMaster of SN/Jefferson and Andrew Faustlin of NEN,
faced off in the Longhorns’ 2-0 win March 31 over the Bluejays. Despite the win, Northeast Nodaway
proved the next game could possibly be theirs. LaMaster had 12 strikeouts and gave up only one hit
while Faustlin had 11 strikouts and gave up just five hits and one earned run, an RBI from LaMaster.

The West Nodaway Rockets had several high points to their
April 1 game against Braymer, but inconsistency of those posi-
tives mixed in with injuries didn’t help West Nodaway any in the
4-11 loss.
Leading 2-0 after the first with RBIs from Damon Hull and
Blake Farnan, the Rockets held that lead until the top of the third
when Braymer tied it up. West Nodaway regained the lead in the
bottom of the third with a one-run homer by Farnan to make it
3-2 into the fourth.
A three-run home run from Braymer followed by a single score
exchanged the lead and West Nodaway trailed 6-3 into the fifth.
Braymer added one more run in the top of the sixth to extend
the lead. In the bottom of the sixth, the Rockets closed the gap
slightly with their second homer of the night, this time from
Treston Sanders to cut the deficit to 4-6.
It was the seventh inning that put the game away for Braymer
with errors accumulating for West Nodaway with overthrows and
dropped balls as Braymer jumped to 11-4 over West Nodaway
and remained in that lead for the win.
The pitchers for West Nodaway were Blake Sanders and Trevor
Meyer.
