This document summarizes data from Spain's national hemovigilance system between 2000-2012. It finds that over this period: - The total number of blood components transfused increased by 61,146 units (3.3%). - Incidence of adverse events from transfusions increased by 80.2%, ranging widely between regions. - Voluntary notifications to the hemovigilance system increased by 93.8%. - The number of hospitals reporting at least one adverse event per year increased from 172 to 226.
