UCSB has partnered with Google to launch an autonomous vehicle transportation service called the Transportation Assistance Venture (TAV) to provide mobility for students with disabilities. The TAV uses AVs to pick up and drop off riders on campus and in Isla Vista. Riders can download the TAV app to request rides, input their destination, and be picked up within 5-10 minutes by an AV. The program aims to develop AVs that can accommodate people with disabilities and ensure accessibility as the technology becomes more widely available.

Students Clash Over Honoraria Changes March 10, 2016
The Associated Students Senate passed a bill reforming the honoraria system to address budget constraints. However, many student organizations felt the Senate did not properly communicate the changes. At a special meeting, students criticized the Senate's notification process and expressed that the honoraria caps would negatively impact those relying on the funds. While some senators defended meeting procedures, others acknowledged faults in communication and agreed to revisit the issue in the spring. Students Clash Over Honoraria Changes March 10, 2016
The Associated Students Senate passed a bill reforming the honoraria system to address budget constraints. However, many student organizations felt the Senate did not properly communicate the changes. At a special meeting, students criticized the Senate's notification process and expressed that the honoraria caps would negatively impact those relying on the funds. While some senators defended meeting procedures, others acknowledged faults in communication and agreed to revisit the issue in the spring. The meeting ended without amending the bill but with plans to further discuss honoraria changes next quarter.

In the 2016 UCSB student election, three new political parties competed for positions in addition to the traditional two parties. Campus United won the most seats, taking three executive positions and securing a majority in the senate. The Response and Peer Action Coalition also won seats. Austin Hechler was elected president on the Campus United ticket. As president, he aims to expand student services through financial reform and increasing access to textbooks and transportation. Neha Nayak and Ashcon Minoiefar also won executive positions to support Hechler's agenda. The election saw increased voter turnout and the first use of single transferable voting.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Public transportation provides several benefits. It eases traffic congestion by providing transportation alternatives to driving. For every $10 million invested in public transit, more than $15 million is saved in transportation costs. Public transit also helps promote cleaner air by reducing automobile use and the associated air pollution. However, some drawbacks of public transportation include lack of privacy and personal space as travelers are crowded together. It also may not be convenient if it does not directly match someone's travel needs due to its fixed schedules. There are also sometimes concerns about lack of space for luggage or strollers. Overall, public transportation can help reduce traffic and pollution but may not be as convenient as personal vehicles for some travelers.

IVP Year in Review 2013-2014
The IVP Office at UCLA accomplished several initiatives to promote safety, transparency, and support for student groups. They developed a mobile panic button app, increased transparency of USAC resolutions and budgets, and provided resources and funding guidance for over 600 student groups. Key accomplishments include launching the Circle of 6 safety app, establishing public feedback on resolutions, livestreaming USAC meetings, releasing a mid-year budget report, and advising student groups through liaisons and workshops.

UCPD Ticketing Policies Leave Students Reeling
UCSB students are upset about a recent spike in bike ticketing by UCPD. Students have reported seeing police waiting in popular bike areas like Pardall Tunnel and SSMS to ticket riders violating bike laws like running stop signs. While some students argue bike culture should take precedence, UCPD says officers target high-accident areas to improve safety since they respond to 30-40 bike collision injuries per year. The A.S. Senate discussed two resolutions at their meeting. The first called for bicyclists to be allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs, based on an Idaho law, but concerns were raised about enforcing this off campus. The resolution was amended to instead support bicycle safety. The second bill aimed to increase transparency of student fees by requiring annual fee reports or risking disqualification. It passed despite some concerns about its constitutionality. The Senate also discussed and sent or tabled several other resolutions on various topics.

The A.S. Senate met to discuss several issues:
1) They funded new offices like Sustainability and a program for keeping the UCen open 24/7 during finals.
2) They discussed free speech concerns from a conservative student group who said their members faced threats. This group called for a resolution supporting free speech.
3) A student group monitoring racial issues warned that multiple student organizations would release a no confidence statement if a resolution about hiring senators passed. They saw issues with the process and senators involved.
The senate voted to support many of the requests after discussions of the various issues.
