Miguel Hidalgo was a Mexican priest and soldier considered the father of the Mexican nation. He led the initial stage of Mexico's War of Independence, which began with his "Cry of Dolores" calling Mexicans to arms against Spanish rule in 1810. Hidalgo played a pivotal role in launching Mexico's fight for independence from Spain.
