This document discusses phosphorus recycling from wastewater in Europe. It notes that phosphorus is a limited and strategic resource, and the modern anthropogenic phosphorus cycle has become disrupted through urbanization, industrialization, and globalization. This has led to problems like inefficient phosphorus use and pollution. There is a need to increase phosphorus recycling to meet demand and reduce mineral fertilizer imports. Several technologies exist in Europe to recover phosphorus from wastewater, sewage sludge, and incineration ashes. Full-scale plants use processes like AirPrex to produce MAP fertilizer. However, more demonstration and validation of technologies is needed, as well as addressing market barriers to increase widespread phosphorus recycling from wastew
