He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and an apostle of shared
value creation. Patrick is a strong advocate for environmental
sustainability and climate change. He is currently a lead consultant

standards based training and environmental consultancy primarily to
the Tourism sector for the past 15 years.

Suzanne conducts property gap-analysis evaluations for properties
seeking environmental certification and has provided successful
environmental certification preparation to 10 properties. She is
trained to Green Globe 21 standard and has completed the ISO
14001 Lead Auditor Training.
Authorized Public Accountant with studies in Ecological Economics,
Climate Finance and experience in Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation of
Projects, Social Participation & Integration processes, Disruptive &
Collaborative Economics, Vulnerability Research & Adaptation to
Climate Change.
David has served as a consultant to several international cooperation
agencies including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP),
Inter-American Development Bank IDB, German Technical Cooperation
Agency GIZ. World Bank, United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) and the European Union. Currently, he is leading
the promotion of processes aimed at achieving a broad-spectrum
Political Agreement against Climate Change in the Dominican Republic
and Latin America called "Green Pact for Sustainability."

CEO of various companies in the fields of consulting, services,

communities.

CHALLENGE
All natural terrestrial carbon sinks on the planet, ie forests, wetlands etc, currently absorb less than 30% of
human carbon emissions. 40% are absorbed by the oceans, causing increasing acidification, the leading cause
of coral bleaching, while 30% cannot be absorbed and remains in the atmosphere, causing Climate Change.
This planetary imbalance must be addressed asap! While current discussions center around emission
reductions, a parallel increase of carbon sequestration capacity will be the ultimate approach for optimum
results.
The hole is on their side… How lucky for us!

CHALLENGE
The current Emission Trading Scheme, while
laudable, is unfortunately quite complex and lacks a
clear global standard of measurement, making it
difficult to precisely address HOW, WHERE and
WHEN a ton of CO2 was absorbed.
In addition, only a fraction of total ETS transactions
actually trickle down to the stakeholders and owners
of carbon sinks, providing little incentive to protect or
develop effective carbon sinks.
Finally, the condition of ‘Additionality’ excludes old
mature carbon sinks from benefiting from the ETS,
while allowing new tree planting programs to
participate in the ETS!
So what financial incentives are there to protect and
further develop existing mature carbon sinks, ie
jungles and forests?
Currently none! Amazon is burning!

ACTORS
Emitters, who successfully transact on the platform and purchase carbon absorption capacity, have all
the information to qualify for a carbon tax refund according to applicable national law, assuming the
spot carbon price is less than the carbon tax. This results in a net profit for the Emitter.
Convertors, who successfully sell carbon absorption capacity on the platform, finally generate revenue
for a service that has remained unrecognized, unpaid and undervalued until now. A practical yield per
hectare can be realized, allowing rational comparison to other types of land utilization.
With increasing demand for documented and verified carbon sequestration, the spot market price will
continue to rise, and hence the yield per hectare of forest, and other carbon sinks.
Emitters, ie all public and private enterprises
subject to a carbon tax, have a financial incentive
to use OXÏ-ZEN.
